Joy		기쁨

After Adam and Eve disobeyed God, joy was lost. God expelled them from their garden home to prevent something worse from happening. If they had eaten from the tree of life after eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, they would have lived forever in their misery.		아담과 하와가 하나님께 불순종하자 기쁨이 상실되었습니다. 하나님은 더 나쁜 일이 일어나지 않도록 그들을 낙원에서 추방하셨습니다. 선악을 아는 열매를 먹음으로 죄로 물든 그들이 생명나무의 열매를 먹게 되면, 그들은 비참한 상태로 영원히 살게 되기 때문이었습니다.
Life outside the garden was not easy. Adam and Eve had to work hard for their food. The reality of death was everywhere, and animals preyed on one another. Even worse, the couple’s firstborn son murdered his younger brother. What could be worse? Sin had pierced their lives, and the couple could not stop joy from draining out.		동산 밖에서의 삶은 쉽지 않았습니다. 아담과 하와는 먹을 것을 얻기 위해 힘들게 일해야 했습니다. 죽음이라는 현실이 도처에 있었고, 동물들은 서로를 잡아먹었습니다. 더욱 끔찍한 것은 그들의 첫 아들이 자기 동생을 살해한 것입니다. 이보다 더 나쁜 일이 어디 있겠습니까? 죄가 그들의 삶을 관통했으며, 그들은 삶에서 기쁨이 빠져나가는 것을 막을 길이 없었습니다.
But God had a plan to restore joy. Joy was lost in the Garden when death came, but joy returned through birth—the birth of God’s own Son. “I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people” (Luke 2:10). Jesus grew up to heal the sick, give sight to the blind, and raise the dead. But this was just a taste of things to come. God entered our world, experienced our sorrow, and conquered death, giving us hope that He will keep His promise to end pain, and eliminate sorrow and death (John 11:25-26; 1 Cor. 15:3-4; Rev. 21:4). No wonder Christmas is the season of joy! —Julie Ackerman Link		하지만 하나님은 기쁨을 회복시킬 계획을 갖고 계셨습니다. 사망이 들어왔을 때 동산에서 기쁨이 사라졌지만, 하나님의 독생자의 탄생을 통해 기쁨이 회복되었습니다. “내가 온 백성에게 미칠 큰 기쁨의 좋은 소식을 너희에게 전하노라”(누가복음 2:10). 예수님은 자라서 병든 자를 고치고, 소경의 눈을 뜨게 하며, 죽은 자를 살리셨습니다. 하지만 이런 것들은 장차 일어날 일들의 작은 예에 불과했습니다. 하나님께서 이 세상에 오셨고, 우리의 슬픔을 경험하셨으며, 죽음을 정복하셨습니다. 이로써, 고통이 끝나고 눈물과 사망이 사라질 것이라는 하나님의 약속이 실행되리라는 희망을 우리에게 주셨습니다(요한복음 11:25-26; 고린도전서 15:3-4; 요한계시록 21:4). 성탄절이 기쁨의 계절인 것은 너무나도 당연합니다!
