바울 사도는 믿는 자들에게 예수님의 재림을 기다리는 “빛의 자녀들” 로 살라고 일깨워줍니다(데살로니가전서 5:5-6). 그리스도께서 주신 구원에 대한 확실한 소망이 있기에 우리는 질투, 불안, 두려움, 또는 시기심으로 서로 경쟁하려는 유혹을 떨쳐버리고, 대신 “피차 권면하고 서로 덕을 세울” 수 있습니다(11절). 우리가 사람들에게 복음을 전하고 그들이 예수님을 위해 살도록 권면하는 그 공동의 목표를 위해 함께 섬길 때, 하나님을 공경하고 “화목하게 살고 있는” 영적 지도자들을 존경할 수 있습니다(12-15절).

한 팀으로 섬기는 우리는 바울의 명령을 명심해야 합니다. “항상 기뻐하라 쉬지 말고 기도하라 범사에 감사하라 이것이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라”(16-18절).

The apostle Paul reminds believers to live as “children of the light” awaiting Jesus’ return (1 Thessalonians 5:5–6). With our hope secure in the salvation Christ has provided, we can shrug off any temptations to compete out of jealousy, insecurity, fear, or envy. Instead, we can “encourage one another and build each other up” (v. 11). We can respect spiritual leaders who honor God and “live in peace” as we serve together to accomplish our shared goal—telling people about the gospel and encouraging others to live for Jesus (vv. 12–15).

As we serve on the same team, we can heed Paul’s command: “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (vv. 16–18).—Xochitl Dixon
