There are a lot of things that intrigue me about Jesus. One of the aspects of His ministry that has always produced jaw-dropping, head-scratching responses is His upside-down teaching about life.		예수님에 대한 나의 호기심을 자극하는 것이 많이 있습니다. 그 중에서도 예수님의 사역의 여러 단면 중에 언제나 나를 놀라게 하고 어리둥절하게 했던 것은 인생에 대한 예수님의 역설적인 가르침입니다.
As we journey through life, we may get to the point where we think we’ve got it figured out and our thought patterns and responses for navigating through life are deeply engrained. Yet Jesus interrupts us in the midst of our routines and calls us to a new and better way. But beware! This encounter with the ways of Jesus will be challenging.		인생여정을 지나는 동안 우리는 우리 생각에 인생을 깨닫게 되었다고 느끼는 어느 시점을 지나게 되고, 그에 따라 우리의 사고방식과 행동들이 몸에 깊이 배이게 됩니다. 그러나 예수님은 우리가 그러한 일상적인 틀에서 벗어나 새롭고 더 나은 길로 가기를 원하십니다. 하지만 명심하십시오! 예수님의 방법대로 하는 것이 그렇게 만만치 않습니다.
Consider these paradoxical propositions: to live you must die (Mark 8:35); to gain you must give (Matt. 19:21); “blessed are those who mourn” (5:4); to rule you must serve (Luke 22:26); and suffering has purpose (5:10-11).		다음과 같은 역설적인 주장들을 생각해 보십시오. 살려고 하면 죽어야 한다(마가복음 8:35). 얻으려면 주어야 한다(마태복음 19:21) “애통하는 자는 복이 있나니”(마태복음 5:4). 다스리려면 섬겨야 한다(누가복음 22:26). 고난에는 목적이 있다(마태복음 5: 10-11).
It is pronouncements like these that make people think Christ is strangely out of touch. But we are the ones out of touch. He is not upside down, we are! We’re like children who think they know better than their parents what is best.		이와 같은 말씀들 때문에 사람들이 그리스도를 이해할 수 없는 이상한 분으로 여기고 있습니다. 그러나 정작 이상한 것은 우리들입니다. 주님이 거꾸로 된 것이 아니고 우리가 거꾸로 된 것이지요! 우리는 마치 무엇이 가장 좋은지 부모보다 더 잘 안다고 생각하는 어린아이와 같습니다.
No wonder God has told us, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways” (Isa. 55:8). So, rather than relying on our mixed-up instincts, let’s ask Him to help us reflect His ways. —Joe Stowell		우리에게 말씀하신 “내 생각은 너희 생각과 다르며 내 길은 너희 길과 달라서”(이사야 55:8)라는 하나님의 말씀은 지극히 당연합니다. 따라서 우리의 뒤범벅된 본능에 의존하지 말고, 우리를 통해 하나님의 뜻이 나타나도록 도와달라고 하나님께 간구합시다.
Lord, You know what is best, and You desire to lead us in paths that are right and good. Give us the courage to trust and to follow You in the ways of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Amen.		주님, 주님은 무엇이 가장 좋은지를 아시고  우리를 올바르고 선한 길로 인도하기를 원하시니  주님을 위하여 의의 길로 나아갈 때에  주님을 의지하고 따를 수 있는 용기를 주소서. 아멘.
What may seem upside down to us is right side up to God.		우리에게는 거꾸로 된 것처럼 보여도 하나님께는 바로 선 것이다.
