Much of the scenery I saw during our vacation in Alaska was through the windows of moving vehicles. I was thankful for glass that allowed me to see the beauty while remaining warm and dry. But the windows also presented a challenge. When it rained, water drops on the outside obscured the view. When the temperature changed, condensation caused fog to develop on the inside.		알라스카 휴가 중에 나는 대부분의 풍경을 움직이는 자동차 창문 너머로 보았습니다. 나는 비와 추위를 걱정하지 않고 차 안에서 유리창을 통해 밖의 아름다움을 볼 수 있음을 감사하게 생각했습니다. 그러나 유리창을 통해 보는 것이 늘 쉽지만은 않았습니다. 비가 내리면 창밖의 물방울들이 시야를 가렸고, 기온이 바뀌면 창 안쪽으로 김이 서려 뿌옇게 되었습니다.
Those challenges help me understand why it is impossible for us to see life the way God intended it. Sin obscures the beauty of life that God wants us to enjoy. Sometimes sin is inside—our selfishness creates a fog that makes us see ourselves as more important than we are and causes us to forget about others’ interests. Sometimes sin is outside. The injustice of others causes our tears to fall like rain, preventing us from seeing the goodness of God. Sin of any kind keeps us from seeing the wonder and glory of life as God designed it.		이와 같은 문제점들은 하나님이 우리에게 주신 삶을 있는 그대로 보기가 힘든 이유를 이해하는 데 도움이 됩니다. 죄는 하나님이 우리에게 즐기도록 허락하신 삶의 아름다움을 흐리게 만듭니다. 때로는 죄가 우리 내부에 존재합니다. 즉, 이기심이 시야를 흐리게 만들어 우리 스스로가 다른 사람보다도 더 중요하다는 생각을 갖게 하고 다른 사람에 대해서는 무관심하게 만듭니다. 때로는 죄가 밖에 존재합니다. 다른 사람들의 불의가 우리로 하여금 눈물의 비를 쏟게 하여, 하나님의 선하심을 못 보게 만들기도 합니다. 이렇듯 죄는 종류에 관계없이 우리로 하여금 하나님이 설계하신 삶의 경이와 영광을 보지 못하게 합니다.
For now, even though “we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror” (1 Cor. 13:12 nlt), we see enough to know that God is good (Ps. 34:8). The many wonderful things that God has revealed will help us to forsake sin and work to minimize its consequences in the world. —Julie Ackerman Link		지금은 “우리가 거울로 보는 것같이 희미하지만”(고린도전서 13:12), 우리는 하나님의 선하심을 깨달을 만큼은 충분히 볼 수 있습니다(시편 34:8). 하나님이 보여주신 수많은 놀라운 일들이 우리가 죄를 떨쳐버리고 이 세상 속에서 죄의 영향력을 힘써 줄여나가도록 도와줄 것입니다.
Lord, improve our vision. Clear the fog that  comes from self-centered thinking. Help us  to uphold justice, to offer comfort to others,  and to wipe away the tears that have been  left by the storms of life.		주님, 우리의 시야를 밝게 하시고, 이기적인  사고방식에서 생겨나는 안개를 거두어주소서.  우리를 도우셔서 정의를 옹호하며, 다른  사람들을 위로하고, 삶의 고난으로 흘린  눈물을 닦아주는 자 되게 하소서.
The only way to see life clearly is to focus on Christ.		삶을 분명하게 볼 수 있는 유일한 길은  그리스도에게 초점을 맞추는 것이다.
