After running 32 kilometers (20 miles) of the Salomon Kielder Marathon in Great Britain, a runner dropped out and rode a bus to a wooded area near the finish line. Then, he re-entered the race and claimed third prize. When officials questioned him, he stated that he stopped running because he was tired.		영국의 살로몬 킬더 마라톤 대회에서 한 주자가 32 킬로미터(20마일)를 달린 후 포기했다가 결승점 근처의 숲까지 버스를 타고 간 후 다시 뛰기 시작해서 3등을 했습니다. 심판관이 그에게 따져 묻자 그는 피곤해서 달리는 것을 멈추었다고 말했습니다.
Many of us can relate to the exhaustion of a worn-out athlete as we run the race of the Christian faith. The book of Hebrews encourages us to “run with endurance the race that is set before us” (12:1). Running with endurance requires that we lay aside the sin that stands in our way and shed the weights that hold us back. We may even have to press on through persecution (2 Tim. 3:12).		우리 가운데 많은 사람들도 신앙의 경주를 하면서 기진맥진한 이 운동선수의 경우와 비슷할 수 있습니다. 히브리서는 우리에게 “인내로써 우리 앞에 당한 경주를 경주하라”(12:1)고 격려합니다. 인내로써 경주하려면 우리의 앞을 가로막고 있는 죄를 내버리고 뒤에서 잡아끄는 무거운 짐을 벗어버리는 것이 필요합니다. 심지어 핍박을 받을지라도 강하게 밀고 나아가야 합니다(디모데후서 3:12).
To prevent weariness and discouragement in our souls (Heb. 12:3), the Bible urges us to focus on Christ. When we pay more attention to Him than to our struggles, we will notice Him running alongside us—supporting us when we stumble (2 Cor. 12:9) and encouraging us with His example (1 Peter 2:21-24). Keeping our eyes on “the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb. 12:2) will help us stay close to the source of our strength and remain faithful to the finish. —Jennifer Benson Schuldt		우리 영혼이 피곤하여 낙심치 않기 위해(히브리서 12:3) 그리스도께 초점을 맞추라고 성경은 우리에게 강조합니다. 우리자신의 문제보다 주님께 더 신경을 쓴다면, 우리가 넘어지면 붙잡아주시고(고린도후서 12:9), 주님이 보여주신 본으로 우리를 격려해주시면서(베드로전서 2:21-24) 주님이 우리와 동행하신다는 사실을 알게 될 것입니다. 우리의 눈을 “믿음의 주요 온전케 하시는 이”(히브리서 12:2)에게 두면 우리가 힘의 원천에 가까이 머무르게 되어 끝까지 신실하게 경주를 마치는 데에 도움이 될 것입니다.
