First Things First		먼저 할 일을 먼저

When our granddaughter Sarah was very young, she told us she wanted to be a basketball coach like her daddy when she grew up. But she couldn’t be one yet, she said, because first she had to be a player; and a player has to be able to tie her shoelaces, and she couldn’t tie hers yet!		우리 손녀인 사라는 아주 어렸을 때 자기가 자라나면 아버지처럼 농구감독이 되겠다고 말했습니다. 그러면서 아직은 감독이 될 수 없다고 덧붙여 말했습니다. 그 이유인즉 감독이 되려면 먼저 선수가 되어야 하고 선수가 되려면 농구화 끈을 맬 줄 알아야 하는데, 아직 자기는 끈을 맬 줄 모르기 때문이라는 것이었습니다.
First things first, we say. And the first thing in all of life is to know God and enjoy Him.		우리는 먼저 할 일을 먼저 하라고 말합니다. 우리의 생활에서 먼저 할 일은 하나님을 아는 것이고 그분을 즐겁게 해드리는 것입니다.
Acknowledging and knowing God helps us to become what we were meant to be. Here is King David’s counsel to his son Solomon: “Know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind” (1 Chron. 28:9).		하나님을 인식하고 아는 것은 우리가 진정 어떤 사람이 되어야 하는지를 이해하도록 도와줍니다. 다윗 왕은 아들 솔로몬에게 이렇게 충고했습니다. “너는 네 아비의 하나님을 알고 온전한 마음과 기쁜 뜻으로 섬길지어다”(역대상 28:9).
Remember, God can be known. He is a Person, not a logical or theological concept. He thinks, wills, enjoys, feels, loves, and desires as any person does. A. W. Tozer writes, “He is a person and can be known in increasing degrees of intimacy as we prepare our hearts for the wonder of it.” Ah, there’s the rub: We must “prepare our hearts.”		하나님을 아는 것은 어렵지 않다는 것을 기억하십시오. 그분은 논리적, 혹은 신학적 관념의 대상이 아니라 인격체이십니다. 그분은 사람처럼 생각하고, 의지가 있고, 즐거워하며, 느끼고, 사랑하며, 바라기도 하시는 분입니다. 토저는 이렇게 말합니다. “하나님은 인격체이시기 때문에 우리가 그분을 알려고 먼저 마음을 여는 준비를 할 때 아주 친근할 정도로 그분의 모습을 알게 해줍니다.” 바로 여기에 문제가 있습니다. 우리는 먼저 “마음을 여는 준비”를 해야 합니다.

The thought of God staggers the mind but to know Him satisfies the heart.		하나님을 생각하면 기이하나  하나님을 알면 만족하게 된다.
