Our church family was excited to see work begin on our new sanctuary. Each Sunday we eagerly looked at the big hole in the ground. But progress seemed slow.		우리 교회식구들은 새 본당을 짓는 것을 보면서 흥분해 있었습니다. 매 주일 우리는 땅에 파인 큰 구멍을 열심히 들여다보았습니다. 그러나 진행과정이 매우 느려 보였습니다.
It all came down to water. Too much in one place and not enough in another. An underground spring was one problem. Construction could not continue until inspectors were satisfied that water was being directed away from the site. At the same time, city officials said we didn’t have enough water coming into the building for a sprinkler system—so new lines for water had to be added. None of us wanted the project to be slowed down by these rulings, but we realized that if codes weren’t followed, we would face serious problems in the future.		이유는 모두 물 때문이었습니다. 한 곳에는 물이 너무 많았고, 다른 곳에는 많이 부족했습니다. 한 가지 문제가 땅 밑의 샘이었습니다. 건물 짓는 곳으로부터 물의 방향을 돌려서 검사관이 만족하기까지 건축은 진행될 수 없었습니다. 동시에 시청직원들은 건물 안의 자동소화 장치를 위한 물이 충분하지 않다고 해서 수도관을 새로 추가하였습니다. 우리 중 어느 누구도 이러한 일들로 인하여 건축이 지연되는 것을 원하지 않았지만, 만일 규칙을 따르지 않는다면 나중에 큰 어려움을 당할 수도 있다는 것을 알고 있었습니다.
Sometimes we grumble about government and other officials. But a proper respect for authority honors God. Paul, who had his own problems with those in charge, wrote, “Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities” (Rom. 13:1). And later, “Do what is good, and you will have praise from [the authorities]” (v.3).		때때로 우리는 정부나 다른 관리들에 대하여 불평합니다. 그러나 권위를 제대로 인정하는 것은 하나님을 공경하는 태도입니다. 바울자신도 지배층에 있는 사람들에 대해 문제가 있었지만, “각 사람은 위에 있는 권세들에게 굴복하라”(로마서 13:1)고 했으며, 나중에는 “선을 행하라 그리하면 그(권위)에게 칭찬을 받으리라”(3절)고 했습니다.
As we let God’s Spirit teach us, we can have a healthy attitude toward government. It’s for our good, the testimony of our faith, and most of all for God’s honor. —Dave Branon		성령께서 우리를 가르치신다면, 우리는 정부에 대해 건전한 태도를 지니게 될 것입니다. 이는 우리에게나, 우리 믿음을 증거하는 데에, 그리고 무엇보다 하나님을 경외하는데 좋은 일입니다.
Thank You, Lord, for people who are willing to  serve in our local, state, and national govern-  ments. pray that they will seek righteousness  and justice and that You will help us to respect  those You have placed over us.		주님, 우리가 사는 지역이나, 주, 그리고 중앙  정부에서 일하는 사람들로 인하여 감사드립니다.  그 사람들이 공의와 정의를 추구하는 사람들이  되게 해주시고, 주님이 우리를 다스리도록 하신  그들을 존경할 수 있도록 도와주소서.
Respect for authority brings glory to God.		권위를 인정함으로써 하나님께 영광을  돌려드리게 된다.
