From across the intersection, I watched as a car hesitated when the traffic light turned green. Then, out of nowhere, a voice began screaming, “Go! Go! Come on, go!” The driver appeared frightened by the angry cries, and he was a bit confused as to where the voice was coming from. Then I saw it—the car behind him was equipped with a loudspeaker that enabled him to yell at other drivers! Eventually, the hesitant driver collected himself and moved along. I was struck by the rudeness and impatience of the angry driver.		도로 교차로에 파란불이 켜졌는데도 건너 편에 있던 차 한 대가 어물거리고 있었습니다. 그러자 난데없이 어디선가 “빨리 가! 빨리 가! 뭐하고 있어, 빨리 가!”라고 외치는 소리가 들렸습니다. 그 운전자는 성난 목소리에 겁먹은 듯했고, 어디서 그 소리가 들려오는지 몰라 당황하고 있었습니다. 그 때 나는 그 차 바로 뒤에 있는 차에 다른 운전자들에게 소리칠 수 있도록 확성기가 부착되어 있는 것을 보았습니다. 주저하던 그 운전자는 조금 후 정신을 차리고 출발했고, 나는 그 뒤차에 있던 성난 운전자의 무례함과 조급함에 놀랐습니다.
Sometimes people think God is like that—irritated, impatient, and ready to shout at them through some divine megaphone. They fear that He is looking over their shoulder, ready to punish every wrong move.		사람들은 때로는 하나님을 마치 이와 같은 분으로 생각합니다. 즉 기분이 언짢고 성급하며, 언제라도 하늘의 확성기로 곧 고함을 칠 준비가 되어 있는 분 말입니다. 이들은 하나님이 우리의 사는 모습을 일일이 들여다보시다가 무언가 잘못하게 되면 즉시 벌을 주실까봐 두려워합니다.
In reality, God’s actions toward His children, even though we falter on our way through life, are born out of His patient love. The apostle Paul wanted the Thessalonians to understand this and prayed: “Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the patience of Christ” (2 Thess. 3:5).		그러나 실제로는 우리가 살면서 잘못할 때에도, 하나님은 그분의 자녀들에게 인내하는 사랑에 근거하여 행동을 취하십니다. 바울사도는 데살로니가 사람들이 이것을 이해하기를 바라면서 다음과 같이 기도했습니다. “주께서 너희 마음을 인도하여 하나님의 사랑과 그리스도의 인내에 들어가게 하시기를 원하노라”(데살로니가후서 3:5).
God is at work in our lives, and He will accomplish His purposes. There may be times when God lovingly prods and disciplines His children, but He won’t be impatiently yelling at us. —Bill Crowder		하나님은 우리의 삶 속에 역사하시면서 그분의 목적을 이루실 것입니다. 하나님은 그의 자녀들을 사랑으로 징계하고 단련시킬 때도 있으시지만, 우리에게 성급하게 고함치시지는 않습니다.
Thank You, Father, for Your careful work in my heart. Move me as needed, pointing me with Your loving patience to be more like You.  In Christ’s name, amen.		하나님아버지, 제 마음에서 역사하심을 감사  드립니다. 주님을 더 닮아가도록 필요할 때  마다 사랑의 인내로 저를 움직여 주시옵소서.  그리스도의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
God’s grace is infinite love expressing itself through infinite goodness.		하나님의 은혜는 무한한 선함을 통해 나타나는 무한한 사랑이다.
