I received some nice Christmas gifts last year—ski pants, a bracelet, and a Kindle reader. But what I enjoyed the most were the gifts of time with people: playing with nine grandnephews and grandnieces from out of state; having a niece and her husband and their 18-month-old daughter attend our church’s Christmas Eve service with us; visiting with a retired co-worker and his wife who are suffering with some health issues; celebrating the season with long-time friends; reading the Christmas story with loved ones. These were all special gifts because of the love we share.		지난 해 나는 좋은 크리스마스 선물을 몇 개 받았습니다. 스키용 바지와 팔찌, 그리고 전자책 독서기구 킨들입니다. 그러나 가장 즐겼던 선물은 사람들과 함께 보냈던 시간이었습니다. 다른 주에서 찾아온 아홉 명의 조카손자손녀들과 함께 즐거운 시간을 보냈고, 조카와 조카사위, 그리고 그들의 18개월 된 딸이 우리와 함께 교회에서 크리스마스이브 예배를 드렸으며, 건강을 잃어가는 은퇴한 직장동료와 그의 아내를 방문했고, 또 오랜 친구들과 함께 연말을 축하하며 보냈고, 사랑하는 이들과 함께 크리스마스 이야기를 읽었습니다. 이 모든 일들이 우리가 함께 나눈 사랑 때문에 특별한 선물들이었습니다.
God the Father, because of love, sent a gift to this world 2,000 years ago. Jesus was wrapped in swaddling cloths and laid in a manger (Luke 2:7). The shepherds knew He was an amazing gift because an angel announced His birth to them in the middle of the night while they were in their fields (vv.8-14). They rushed to see Him and then couldn’t help but share the news of this Gift with others (vv.16-17). Yet many later rejected Him, and He was crucified for our sins and buried. But He rose from the tomb and now offers salvation to all who receive Him.		성부 하나님께서는 사랑 때문에 2천 년 전 이 세상에 선물을 보내셨습니다. 예수님은 강보에 싸여 구유에 뉘어졌습니다(누가복음 2:7). 목자들은 천사들이 한 밤중에 들에 있던 그들에게 예수님의 탄생을 알렸기에 이분이야말로 놀라운 선물이라는 것을 알았습니다(8-14절). 그들은 빨리 가서 예수님을 만나보고는, 이 선물에 대한 소식을 다른 사람들과 나누지 않고는 견딜 수가 없었습니다(16-17절). 하지만 나중에 많은 사람들이 예수님을 받아들이지 않았고, 예수님은 우리들의 죄를 위하여 십자가에서 돌아가시고, 무덤에 장사 되셨습니다. 그러나 그는 무덤에서 부활하셨고, 이제는 그를 영접하는 모든 사람들에게 구원을 베풀어주십니다.

God’s gift to the world is the life-giving Savior.		이 세상에 주신 하나님의 선물은 생명을 주는 구세주이시다.
