Asking directions is not my favorite thing to do. I always feel that if I stay at it long enough I’ll eventually find my way. My wife, Martie, on the other hand, is always quick to ask directions and incredulous about my unwillingness to admit that I don’t have a clue about where I’m going. In the end, she is the wiser one. She gets to her destination quickly and without angst while I end up getting lost.		나는 길을 묻는 것을 별로 좋아하지 않습니다. 나는 늘 그저 한참 가다보면 결국에는 내가 가야할 길을 찾게 되리라고 생각합니다. 반면에 나의 아내 마티는 늘 서슴지 않고 길을 묻습니다. 그리고는 내가 길을 잃고 헤매고 있다는 사실을 쉽게 인정하지 않는 것을 이해하지 못합니다. 결국에는 그녀가 더 현명한 것으로 드러납니다. 나는 마침내 길을 잃고 말지만 그녀는 걱정 없이 목적지에 빨리 도착합니다.
Thinking that we are smart enough to navigate life on our own goes contrary to the warning of Scripture that tells us, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Prov. 16:25). When we are at a fork in the road, we need to stop and consult the ways of the Lord, “for the ways of the Lord are right” (Hos. 14:9).		우리가 인생을 스스로 헤쳐 나갈 만큼 똑똑하다고 생각하는 것은 “어떤 길은 사람의 보기에 바르나 필경은 사망의 길”(잠언 16:25)이라고 우리에게 경고하는 성경말씀에 어긋납니다. 우리가 갈림길에 서게 되었을 때, 잠시 멈추고 하나님의 인도하심을 구해야합니다. 왜냐하면 “여호와의 도는 정직하니”(호세아 14:9)라고 말씀하셨기 때문입니다.
Life is a directional enterprise. It’s vitally important to know how to successfully direct our lives toward blessed and peaceful relationships, meaningful acts of love and service, a fulfilling experience with God, and a host of other vitally important destinations.		인생은 어떤 방향성이 있는 기업경영과 같습니다. 축복받고 평화로운 인간관계, 진정한 사랑과 봉사, 하나님과의 의미 있는 만남, 그리고 다른 여러 가지 중요한 목적지들을 향하여 우리의 삶을 어떻게 성공적으로 이끌어갈 수 있는지를 안다는 것은 대단히 중요합니다.
Asking God for directions isn’t just a good idea—it’s critical. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart . . . and He shall direct your paths” (Prov. 3:5-6). —Joe Stowell		하나님께 방향을 묻는 것은 단지 좋은 생각이 아니라 필수적인 것입니다. “너는 마음을 다하여 여호와를 의뢰하라...... 그리하면 네 길을 지도하시리라”(잠언 3:5-6).
Lord, I surrender my stubborn tendency to do life on my own terms. Teach me that my “want to’s” lead to dead-end streets and that Your wisdom will keep me on the road to all that is good and fruitful. Amen.		주님, 내 마음대로 삶을 살고자하는 저의 고집을  내려놓습니다. 내가 “원하는 대로” 살면 막다른  길에 다다르며, 주님의 지혜대로 살면 모든 선함과  풍성함에 이르게 된다는 것을 가르쳐주소서. 아멘.
Ask God for directions because He knows the way.		하나님이 길을 아시니 하나님께 방향을 물어보라.
