A colleague recently shared an experience I don’t intend to try personally—bungee jumping. I found his description of the event both fascinating and terrifying. To think of jumping headfirst from a bridge hundreds of feet in the air suspended only by a giant rubber band is not my idea of a good time. But his leap was not without support. He described not one, but two heavy-duty harnesses that secured him to his lifeline—and to safety. The careful design and proven testing of those harnesses gave him great confidence as he jumped into the air.		한 동료가 최근에 나로서는 해보고 싶지않은 번지점프의 경험에 대해 얘기해주었습니다. 친구의 경험담은 매우 흥미로운 동시에 무섭게 여겨졌습니다. 수십 미터 높이의 다리로부터 큰 고무줄 하나에 의지해 머리부터 뛰어내리는 것이 재미있을 거로는 생각되지 않았습니다. 하지만 그 친구가 아무런 지지장치 없이 뛰어내린 것은 아니었습니다. 그는 생명과 안전을 보장하기 위한, 하나가 아닌 이중으로 된 고성능 안전벨트에 대해 설명해주었습니다. 세심한 설계와 시험으로 증명된 그 안전벨트가 내 친구가 공중으로 뛰어내릴 때 그에게 큰 확신을 주었던 것입니다.
As I listened, it occurred to me that for the follower of Christ, living in a sinful world is not a blind “leap of faith.” We too have a pair of protections that can secure us in even the darkest times of life. In Ephesians 2:8-9, Paul wrote these words, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”		그 말을 들으면서 예수님의 제자가 죄 많은 세상에서 살아가는 것도 그저 맹목적인 “믿음의 도약”이 아니라는 생각이 들었습니다. 우리에게도 인생의 가장 어두운 때에 우리를 붙들어줄 수 있는 한 쌍의 보호 장비가 있습니다. 에베소서 2:8-9에서 바울은 “너희가 그 은혜를 인하여 믿음으로 말미암아 구원을 얻었나니 이것이 너희에게서 난 것이 아니요 하나님의 선물이라 행위에서 난 것이 아니니 이는 누구든지 자랑치 못하게 함이니라”고 기술하였습니다.
It’s in these twin harnesses—God’s grace and faith in the finished work of Jesus—that our relationship with God safely rests. In the strength of these provisions, salvation is not a risky leap into the void. It’s an exercise of confidence in God’s Word and His unfailing love and protection.  —Bill Crowder		우리와 하나님의 관계가 안전하게 머무르기 위해서는 하나님의 은혜와 예수님의 완성된 사역에 대한 믿음이라는 한 쌍의 안전벨트가 필요합니다. 이러한 예비하심의 힘 속에서 구원은 결코 허공으로의 위험한 도약이 아닙니다. 그것은 하나님의 말씀과 그의 한결같은 사랑과 보호에 대한 신뢰를 실행하는 것입니다.

We can expect God’s peace when we accept God’s grace.		하나님의 은혜를 받아들일 때  하나님의 평안을 기대할 수 있다.
