Before the electronic gadgets and distractions of today, the long summer days of my boyhood were brightened each week when the bookmobile arrived. It was a bus lined with book-filled shelves that were transported from the regional library to neighborhoods so that those without transportation could access them. Because of the bookmobile, I spent many a happy summer day reading books that would otherwise have been inaccessible. To this day, I am thankful for the love of books that the bookmobile fostered in me.		현대의 전자기기들이나 정신을 산만하게 하는 것들이 나오기 전이었던 나의 소년시절, 나는 매주 찾아왔던 차량도서관 덕분에 긴 여름날을 행복하게 보냈습니다. 버스 안에 있는 선반에는 교통수단이 없는 사람들이 도서관 책을 이용할 수 있도록 지역 도서관에서 이웃 마을들로 옮겨온 책들이 가득 채워져 있었습니다. 달리 이용할 수 없었던 책들을 차량도서관 덕분에 읽으면서 나는 많은 행복한 여름날을 보낼 수 있었습니다. 차량도서관이 나에게 책을 사랑하는 마음을 키워준 것에 대해 나는 지금도 감사하고 있습니다.
Some Bible scholars say that the apostle Paul had a love of books and studied them till the end of his life. He wrote in his final letter, “Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come—and the books, especially the parchments” (2 Tim. 4:13). The books he was asking for could very well have been the Old Testament and/or some of his own writings.		어떤 성경학자들은 바울사도가 책을 사랑하였고 그의 삶의 마지막 순간까지 책을 연구하였다고 말합니다. 그는 마지막 서신에서 쓰기를 “네가 올 때에 내가 드로아 가보의 집에 둔 겉옷을 가지고 오고 또 책은 특별히 가죽종이에 쓴 것을 가져오라”(디모데후서 4:13)고 했습니다. 그가 요청했던 책은 아마도 구약이거나 그가 직접 쓴 내용이었던 것 같습니다.
I’m sure that Paul’s pursuit of knowledge was more than intellectual curiosity or entertainment. It was the pursuit of Christ that drove Paul. His goal: “That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death” (Phil 3:10). I pray that this same pursuit will drive us today.  —Bill Crowder		바울의 지식 추구는 확실히 지적 호기심이나 흥미 그 이상이었습니다. 바울을 이끌었던 것은 그리스도에 대한 추구였습니다. 그의 목표는 “그리스도와 그 부활의 권능과 그 고난에 참예함을 알려하여 그의 죽으심을 본받는”(빌립보서 3:10) 것이었습니다. 이 똑같은 추구가 오늘날 우리를 이끌어갈 수 있기를 나는 기도합니다.
Heavenly Father, give me a passionate desire to know You and Your Son. Please stir my heart for this, the greatest of all pursuits, so that I might grow ever closer to You. Amen.		하나님아버지, 하나님과 예수 그리스도를 알아가는 열정을 허락하소서. 모든 추구들 중에서 가장 위대한 그 열정을 위해 내 마음을 움직여주소서. 그리하여 내가 하나님께 더 가까이 자라가게 하소서. 아멘.
To know Christ is the greatest of all knowledge.		모든 지식 중에서 가장 큰 지식은 그리스도를 아는 것이다.
