The Mission Point Lighthouse was built in 1870 on a peninsula in Northern Michigan to warn ships of sand bars and rocky shores along Lake Michigan. That lighthouse got its name from another kind of lighthouse, a mission church, which was built 31 years earlier.		미시간 호수를 지나는 배들에게 그 주변의 모래톱과 바위가 많은 해안을 경고하기 위하여 1870년 미시간 북부의 반도에 미션 포인트 등대가 세워졌습니다. 이 등대의 이름은 다른 종류의 등대, 즉 그보다 31년 전에 세워졌던 한 선교교회의 이름에서 따왔습니다.
In 1839, Rev. Peter Dougherty answered the call to become pastor of a church in Old Mission that was made up of Native Americans who lived farther south on the same peninsula. Under his leadership, a thriving community of farmers, teachers, and craftsmen worked side by side to build a better life for the community.		1839년, 피터 도허티 목사가 이 반도의 더 남쪽에 살던 미국 원주민들이 다니는 올드미션 지역의 교회 목사로 부르심을 받았습니다. 농부들과 교사, 그리고 수공업자들로 구성되어 번성하고 있던 그 공동체는 그의 지도하에 공동체의 더 나은 삶을 이루기 위해 서로 힘을 합하여 열심히 일했습니다.
When believers in Christ work together in unity, their fellowship of faith provides spiritual light in the world’s darkness (Phil. 2:15-16). Jesus said, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. . . . Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:14-16).		예수 그리스도를 믿는 신자들이 함께 연합하여 사역을 하면 믿음의 공동체는 어두운 세상에 영적인 빛을 비취게 됩니다(빌립보서 2:15-16). 예수님은 “너희는 세상의 빛이라 산 위에 있는 동네가 숨기우지 못할 것이요......너희 빛을 사람 앞에 비취게 하여 저희로 너희 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하라”(마태복음 5:14-16)고 말씀하셨습니다.
The Mission Point Lighthouse warned ships of danger, but the original Old Mission Church provided spiritual direction to all who would listen. Believers do the same individually and through our churches. We are God’s lighthouse because Jesus lives in us. —Dennis Fisher		미션 포인트 등대는 배들에게 위험경고를 주었지만, 본래의 올드미션 교회는 듣고자 하는 사람 모두에게 올바른 영적인 방향을 제시해주었습니다. 믿는 사람들은 개인적으로, 그리고 교회 공동체를 통하여 이와 똑같은 역할을 합니다. 예수님이 우리 안에 계시기 때문에 우리는 하나님의 등대입니다.

Believers help the lost to find their way home when their life shines brightly.		믿는 사람의 삶이 밝게 빛나면 길 잃은 자들이  천국으로 가는 길을 찾는데 도움이 된다.
