Samuel, who was 4, had finished eating his dinner and asked if he could be dismissed from the table. He wanted to go outside to play. But he was too young to be out alone, so his mother said, “No. You can’t go outside by yourself. You need to wait for me to finish and go with you.” His quick reply: “But, Mommy, Jesus is with me!”		네 살배기 사무엘이 저녁식사를 마치고 식탁에서 일어나도 되는지 엄마에게 물었습니다. 밖에 나가 놀고 싶었던 것입니다. 하지만 혼자 나가기에는 너무 어려 엄마가 “안돼. 혼자 나갈 수 없어. 내가 식사를 끝내고 같이 나갈 테니 기다려.”라고 하자, 그는 재빨리 “하지만 엄마, 예수님이 나랑 계시잖아!”라고 대답하였습니다.
Samuel had learned well from his parents that the Lord is always by his side. We see in our Bible reading today that Jacob had learned that lesson too. His father Isaac had blessed him and told him to find a wife from among his mother’s family (Gen. 28:1-4). He followed that directive and traveled toward Haran.		사무엘은 주님이 항상 그의 곁에 계시다는 것을 부모님으로부터 잘 배웠습니다. 오늘의 성구에서 야곱도 그렇게 배웠다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 그의 아버지 이삭이 그를 축복하면서 어머니의 친척 중에서 아내를 고르라고 하자(창세기 28:1-4), 그는 그 지시를 따라 하란을 향해 여행을 떠났습니다.
As Jacob slept, the Lord came to him in a dream and said, “I am with you and will keep you wherever you go . . . ; for I will not leave you” (v.15). When he awoke, he knew that he had heard from God, and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place” (v.16). Confident of God’s presence, he committed himself to following Him with his life (vv.20-21).		야곱이 잠들었을 때 하나님이 꿈에 나타나 “내가 너와 함께 있어 네가 어디로 가든지 너를 지키며........너를 떠나지 아니하리라”(15절)고 말씀하셨습니다. 그는 깨어나 하나님으로부터 들은 말씀을 상기하며 “여호와께서 과연 여기 계시거늘”(16절)이라고 했습니다. 하나님의 임재를 확신한 그는 평생 동안 하나님을 따르기로 결심하였습니다(20-21절).
If we have received Jesus as our Savior (John 1:12), we can be confident and take comfort in the truth that He is always present with us (Heb. 13:5). Like Jacob, may our response to His love be wholehearted devotion. —Anne Cetas		우리가 예수님을 우리의 구주로 받아들였다면(요한복음 1:12), 주님이 늘 우리와 함께 하신다는 것을 확신하고 그 사실로 인해 위로를 받을 수 있습니다(히브리서 13:5). 주님의 사랑에 대한 우리의 반응이 야곱처럼 진심에서 우러나오는 헌신이기를 바랍니다.
