During a children’s church service, the teacher talked about the first of the Ten Commandments: “You shall have no other gods before Me” (Ex. 20:3). She suggested some ways for the kids to keep this command. She said, “Nothing should come before God—not candy, not schoolwork, not video games.” She told them that putting God first meant that time with Him reading the Bible and praying should come before anything else.		주일학교 예배 중에 교사가 십계명의 첫번째 계명인 “너는 나 외에는 다른 신들을 네게 있게 말찌니라”(출애굽기 20:3)에 대해 이야기하면서 아이들에게 이 계명을 지키는 몇 가지 방법을 알려주었습니다. 그녀는 “캔디나 숙제, 비디오 게임 등 무엇이든 그것들을 하나님보다 먼저 두지 말아야 한다.”고 말했습니다. 하나님을 먼저 둔다는 것은 성경을 읽고 기도하며 하나님과 함께하는 시간들이 다른 무엇보다 우선해야 한다는 뜻이라고 덧붙여 주었습니다.
An older child in the group responded with a thought-provoking question. She asked if being a Christian was about keeping rules or if instead God wanted to be involved in all areas of our life.		그때 조금 나이든 여자아이가 생각하게 만드는 질문을 던졌습니다. 그 아이는 그리스도인이 된다는 것이 규칙들을 지켜야 한다는 것을 의미하는 것인지, 아니면 하나님이 우리 삶의 모든 영역에 관여하시기를 원하는 것인지를 물었습니다.
Sometimes we make the mistake of viewing the Bible as a list of rules. Certainly obeying God (John 14:21) and spending time with Him is important, but not because we need to be rule-keepers. Jesus and the Father had a loving relationship. When we have a relationship with God, we desire to spend time with Him and obey Him so we can become more like Jesus. John said, “He who says he abides in [Jesus] ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 John 2:6). He’s the example we can follow.		때때로 우리는 성경이 규칙들을 나열해놓은 것이라고 생각하는 실수를 범합니다. 하나님께 대한 순종(요한복음 14:21)과 주님과 함께하는 시간은 중요하지만, 그것이 우리가 규칙을 잘 지키는데 필요해서 그런 것은 아닙니다. 예수님과 성부 하나님은 사랑의 관계를 가지고 계셨습니다. 우리가 하나님과 관계를 맺을 때에, 우리는 예수님을 좀 더 닮아갈 수 있도록 하나님과 함께 시간을 가지며 하나님께 순종하기를 갈망합니다. 요한은 “저 안에 거한다 하는 자는 그의 행하시는대로 자기도 행할찌니라”(요한1서 2:6)고 말했습니다. 예수님은 우리가 따라야 할 본이 되십니다.
When we want to understand how to love, or how to be humble, or how to have faith, or even how to set our priorities, we can look at Jesus and follow His heart. —Anne Cetas		어떻게 사랑하고, 어떻게 겸손해지며, 어떻게 믿음을 가지고, 또 어떻게 우선순위를 정하는지를 이해하고 싶을 때, 우리는 예수님을 바라보고 주님의 마음을 따르면 됩니다.
Lord, as I look ahead to another day, I give myself to be led by Your Spirit. Give discernment in priorities, but most of all a sensitive heart to live like Jesus did—filled with Your love and power. Amen.		주님, 또 하루를 맞으며, 주님의 성령으로 인도되도록 제 자신을 드립니다. 우선순위에 따른 분별력을 주시고, 무엇보다도 예수님처럼  살 수 있는, 주님의 사랑과 능력으로 가득 찬  예민한 마음을 주시옵소서. 아멘.
Jesus calls us to follow Him.		예수님은 자기를 따르라고 우리를 부르신다.
