Working conditions in England during the 19th century were abysmal. Men, women, and children labored in dangerous factories during the day and went home to dirty tenement slums at night. Many of the factory owners cared little for the well-being of their employees.		19세기 영국의 노동환경은 최악이었습니다. 남자, 여자, 그리고 어린아이들이 낮에는 위험한 공장에서 일하고, 밤에는 더러운 빈민 공동주택으로 돌아갔습니다. 많은 공장 주인들은 자신들의 근로자들의 복지에 대해 거의 관심이 없었습니다.
But during that time, the owners of the Cadbury chocolate company were different. Quakers by conviction and business entrepreneurs by giftedness, they focused on improving the working conditions of their 200 workers. The Cadburys built a state-of-the-art factory with heated dressing rooms, a kitchen, and recreational areas. And to care for the employees’ spiritual needs, the workday started with Bible study.		그러나 같은 시대의 캐드베리 초콜릿 회사의 주인들은 달랐습니다. 신앙적으로는 퀘이커교도들이며 기업가로서 뛰어났던 그들은 자신들의 공장에서 일하는 200여명의 근로자들의 작업환경을 개선하는데 역점을 두었습니다. 회사 주인 캐드베리가의 사람들은 따뜻한 탈의실, 부엌, 그리고 오락실 등을 갖춘 최첨단 공장을 지었습니다. 그리고 직원들의 영적 필요를 채워주기 위해 하루 일과를 성경공부로 시작했습니다.
Colossians 4:1 tells us: “Masters, give your bondservants what is just and fair, knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.” Certainly the Cadburys sought to give their employees what was just and fair. But their heavenly orientation motivated them to go a step further to meet physical and spiritual needs.		골로새서 4장 1절은 이렇게 말합니다. “상전들아 의와 공평을 종들에게 베풀지니 너희에게도 하늘에 상전이 계심을 알지어다.” 캐드베리가 사람들은 분명히 직원들에게 의와 공평을 베풀었습니다. 그러나 그들의 신앙심은 그들로 하여금 한걸음 더 나아가 직원들의 물질적, 영적 필요까지도 공급하게 하였습니다.
Though we may not own a company, we do have regular contact with a variety of people. As believers, it is important to be ethical in our dealings. We can also, with God’s enablement, care about others’ well-being through prayer, encouragement, and the meeting of physical needs (Gal. 6:10). —Dennis Fisher		우리가 비록 기업을 소유하고 있지는 않을지라도, 다양한 사람들과 규칙적으로 접촉하며 살아갑니다. 신자로서 우리가 사람들을 도덕적으로 대하는 것은 중요한 일입니다. 그러나 더 나아가 하나님의 도우심으로, 기도와 격려, 물질적인 도움을 줌으로써 그들의 복지를 돌아볼 수도 있습니다(갈라디아서 6:10).
Lord, thank You for loving us and meeting our needs. Often You bring people into our lives who need Your love and care. Give us wisdom to creatively reach out a helping hand that we might share Your kindness.		주님, 저희를 사랑하시고 저희의 필요를 채워주심을 감사합니다. 주님은 자주 주님의 사랑과 돌보심이  필요한 사람들을 우리의 삶속으로 인도해주십니다.  어떻게 그들을 도와 주님의 선하심을 함께 나눌 수  있을지 창조적인 지혜를 허락해주옵소서.
God blesses us so that we can bless others.		우리가 다른 사람들을 축복할 수 있도록  하나님은 우리를 축복하신다.
