For me, food is more than a necessity—it’s a wonderfully enjoyable part of life! I enjoy sitting down to a well-prepared meal, especially when I’m feeling hungry. I imagine that the disciples were hungry for lunch when they returned to the well where Jesus was interacting with the Samaritan woman. They urged Him, “Rabbi, eat” (John 4:31). His response? “I have food to eat of which you do not know” (v.32), which made them wonder if someone had already brought Him something to eat (v.33).		내게 있어서 음식은 꼭 필요한 것 이상의 것으로, 대단히 즐거운 삶의 일부분입니다! 나는 자리에 앉아 맛있게 요리된 음식을 즐깁니다. 특히 배고프면 더 그렇습니다. 나는 제자들이 점심때가 되어 예수님이 사마리아 여자와 대화하고 있는 우물가로 돌아왔을 때, 얼마나 배가 고팠을까 상상해봅니다. 제자들이 “랍비여 잡수소서”(4:31)라고 청하자, 예수님은 “내게는 너희가 알지 못하는 먹을 양식이 있느니라”(32절)고 대답하셨습니다. 이 말씀을 듣고 제자들은 누가 잡수실 것을 미리 갖다 드렸나 하고 이상하게 생각했습니다(33절).
I wonder if the disciples were so consumed with thinking about food that they couldn’t see past their picnic. They didn’t understand the significance of what was going on at the well. The most important thing to Jesus was “to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work” (v.34). He was focused on the spiritual needs of this woman who desperately needed what only He could give.		나는 제자들이 음식에 너무 집착한 나머지, 음식 이상의 것을 보지 못하고 있는 것은 아닌가 하는 생각이 듭니다. 그들은 우물가에서 일어나는 일의 중요성을 이해하지 못했습니다. 예수님께 가장 중요한 일은 “나를 보내신 이의 뜻을 행하며 그의 일을 온전히 이루는”(34절) 것이었습니다. 주님은 주님만이 주실 수 있는, 이 여자가 절실히 필요로 하는 영적인 필요에 초점을 맞추고 있었습니다.
It’s easy to become preoccupied with needs of the moment. But Jesus invites us to get beyond our own interests—our own little “lunch”—to open our eyes to the souls who are searching for answers to their deepest needs.		우리는 짧은 순간 동안만 필요한 것에 마음을 빼앗기기 쉽습니다. 그러나 예수님은 우리 자신의 관심, 우리 자신의 조그만 “점심”을 뛰어넘어, 우리의 눈을 열어 자신들이 절실히 필요로 하는 것의 해답을 찾고 있는 사람들의 영혼을 바라보라고 우리에게 권유하고 계십니다.
So, join Jesus at the well, and let Him use you to tell others about the spiritual food only He can give. —Joe Stowell		그러므로 우물가의 예수님께 합류하여, 주님이 당신을 사용하여 그분만이 주실 수 있는 영의 양식을 다른 사람들에게 전할 수 있게 하십시오.
Dear Lord, may my eyes be fixed not just on  the things I am interested in, but lift my eyes  to see the needy souls around me. Give me  passion for the lost and the joy of seeing  others satisfied in You.		사랑하는 주님, 내 눈이 좋아하는 것에만 머물지  않게 하시고 눈을 들어 내 주위의 갈급한 영혼들을  보게 하소서. 잃어버린 영혼들을 향한 열정을 갖게  하시고 사람들이 주님 안에서 만족하는 것을 보는  기쁨을 주소서
Be hungry to satisfy the needs of  others around you.		주변 사람들의 필요를 채우는 일에 굶주린 사람이 되라.
