Now in my sixties, I reflect back on wise spiritual leaders who had a positive impact on my life. In Bible school, God used my Old Testament professor to make the Word come alive. My Greek teacher relentlessly employed high standards to goad my study of the New Testament. And the senior pastor in my first pastoral ministry shepherded me in building vital ministries to help others grow spiritually. Each of these teachers encouraged me in different ways.		이제 60대가 되어 나는 지금까지 살아오면서 내 삶에 긍정적인 영향을 끼친 지혜로운 영적 지도자들을 회상해봅니다. 신학교를 다닐 때에는 하나님께서 구약성경을 가르치는 교수를 통하여 성경말씀이 나에게 생명으로 다가오게 해주셨습니다. 헬라어를 가르쳤던 교수는 나에게 높은 기준을 혹독하게 사용해 신약성경 공부를 격려해 주었습니다. 그리고 내가 처음으로 부임한 목회지의 담임 목사는 다른 사람들이 영적으로 성장하는데 필수적인 사역들을 내가 잘 펼쳐나갈 수 있도록 보살펴주었습니다. 이 모든 스승들은 각각 다른 방법으로 나를 세워주었습니다.
King Solomon wisely observed some ways that spiritual leaders can help us grow: “The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd” (Eccl. 12:11). Some teachers prod us; others build solid spiritual structures into our lives. Still others, as caring shepherds, are there with a listening ear when we hurt.		솔로몬 왕은 우리의 성장을 도와주는 영적지도자들의 지도방법에 대해서 다음과 같은 지혜로운 관찰을 하였습니다. “지혜자의 말씀은 찌르는 채찍 같고 회중의 스승의 말씀은 잘 박힌 못 같으니 다 한 목자의 주신 바니라”(전도서 12:11). 어떤 스승들은 우리에게 자극을 주고, 다른 스승들은 우리의 삶에 영적인 토대를 굳건히 세워줍니다. 뿐만 아니라, 마음에 상처를 입은 사람들의 말에 귀를 기울이는, 돌보는 목자 같은 스승들도 있습니다.
The Good Shepherd has given leaders a variety of gifts: exhorting, developing, and shepherding. Whether we’re a leader or a learner, though, He desires that we maintain humble hearts and a love for others. What a privilege to be led and used by our Shepherd to encourage others in their walk with Him. —Dennis Fisher		선한 목자 되신 주님은 지도자들에게 권면이나 영적 계발, 그리고 보살핌 같은 다양한 은사들을 주셨습니다. 주님은 우리가 지도자이든 배움을 받는 사람이든, 겸손한 마음과 다른 사람들에 대한 사랑을 계속 지니기를 원하십니다. 목자 되신 우리 주님의 인도하심을 따라 다른 사람들로 하여금 주님과 동행할 수 있도록 격려하는 일에 쓰임 받는다는 것은 참으로 귀한 특권입니다.
Give us the wisdom we need, Lord, to encourage others in their spiritual walk. We know we need Your Spirit’s power to do that. Use the gifts  You have given us to help others along on their journey.		주님, 다른 사람들의 영적인 삶을 권면하는 데  필요한 지혜를 주소서. 그 일을 위해 우리는  주님의 영적인 능력이 필요함을 압니다. 다른  사람들의 삶을 돕기 위해 주님께서 우리에게  주신 은사들을 사용하소서.
May our words reflect the heart of God and His wisdom.		우리의 말이 하나님의 마음과 지혜를 나타내게 하소서.
