In 1924, a boy named Johnny, who loved to play basketball, completed the eighth grade in a small rural school. His father, rich in love but short on money for a graduation gift, gave Johnny a card on which he had written his own 7-point creed, which he encouraged his son to start following daily. Three of the points were: Drink deeply from good books, especially the Bible. Make each day your masterpiece. Pray for guidance, and give thanks for your blessings every day.		1924년, 농구를 좋아하는 조니라는 한 소년이 작은 시골 중학교를 졸업하게 되었습니다. 아들을 한없이 사랑했지만 졸업 선물을 사 줄 형편이 못되었던 아버지는 아들이 매일 실천해주기를 권면하며 자신의 7가지 생활신조를 기록한 카드를 주었습니다. 그 중의 세 가지는, 좋은 책들, 특히 성경을 정독할것, 매일 하루를 최고의 날로 만들 것, 그리고 매일 주님의 인도하심과 받은 축복에 감사할 것이었습니다.
Jesus, in what we often call the Lord’s Prayer (Matt. 6:9-13), taught us to approach our heavenly Father each day; it’s not something to be said once and forgotten. Through it we offer God praise (v.9); seek His kingdom and His will (v.10); trust His provision (v.11); and ask for His forgiveness, power, and deliverance (vv.12-13).		우리가 보통 일컫는 주기도문(마태복음 6:9-13)에서 예수님은 우리가 하나님아버지께 매일 가까이 나아갈 것을 가르치고 있습니다. 그것은 한번 말하고 잊어버리는 것이 아닙니다. 그 기도를 통해서 우리는 하나님께 찬양 드리고(9절), 주님의 나라와 뜻을 구하고(10절), 주님이 공급해주심을 믿고(11절), 주님의 용서와 능력, 그리고 구원을 간구하는 것입니다(12-13절).
Throughout his life, Johnny sought the Lord’s strength to live each day for Him. He became a three-time All-American basketball player at Purdue University and one of the greatest college coaches of all time. When Coach John Wooden died at the age of 99, he was honored most of all for his character, his faith, and the many lives he touched.		조니는 그가 사는 동안 매일 주님을 위해 살 수 있도록 주님의 능력을 구했습니다. 그는 퍼듀대학 시절 세 번이나 미국 최우수 농구선수로 뽑혔고, 역대 최우수 대학농구감독 중 한 명으로도 선정되었습니다. 존 우든 감독이 99세 나이로 세상을 떠났을 때, 그는 다른 무엇보다도 그의 인격과 믿음, 그리고 많은  사람들에게 끼친 그의 영향들로 인해 존경 받았습니다.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the blessing  and privilege of being able to drink deeply from Your Word. Give me guidance as I seek You.  I want to know You and to have my life bring a smile to Your face.		하나님아버지, 하나님의 말씀을 깊이 묵상할 수 있는 축복과 특권을 주심을 감사합니다.  제가 주님을 찾을 때 저를 인도하여주소서.  제가 주님을 알기를 원하고, 제 삶이 주님의 기쁨이 되기를 원합니다.
Commitment to Christ is a daily calling.		그리스도에게로의 헌신은 매일 요구되는 것이다.
