What’s Love?		사랑이란?

When asked “What’s love?” children have some great answers. Noelle, age 7, said, “Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it every day.” Rebecca, who is 8, answered, “Since my grandmother got arthritis, she can’t bend over and polish her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even after his hands got arthritis too. That’s love.” Jessica, also 8, concluded, “You really shouldn’t say ‘I love you’ unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget.”		아이들에게 “사랑이 뭐니?”라고 물으면 놀라운 대답들을 합니다. 7살 된 노엘은 “사랑이란 어떤 남자아이에게 그가 입고 있는 셔츠가 멋있다고 했을 때 그 아이가 매일 그 셔츠를 입고 오는 것이에요.”라고 했습니다. 8살인 레베카는 “할머니가 관절염 때문에 몸을 굽혀 발톱을 손질하지 못하시는데 할아버지가 항상 대신 해드렸어요. 할아버지 손에 관절염이 생긴 후에도 그렇게 하셨어요. 그게 사랑이에요.”라고 대답했습니다. 역시 8살인 제시카는 이렇게 말했습니다. “정말 사랑하지 않으면 ‘당신을 사랑해요’ 라는 말은 하지 말아야 해요. 하지만 진심으로 사랑한다면 자주 사랑한다고 말해주어야 해요. 사람들은 곧잘 잊어버려요.”
Sometimes we need reminding that God loves us. We focus on the difficulties of life and wonder, Where’s the love? But if we pause and consider all that God has done for us, we remember how much we are loved by God, who is love (1 John 4:8-10).		가끔은 우리도 하나님이 우리를 사랑하신다는 것을 떠올릴 필요가 있습니다. 우리는 어려운 삶에 정신을 빼앗기다 보면 ‘사랑이 어디 있어?’ 하고 의심하기도 합니다. 하지만 우리가 잠시 멈추어 하나님이 우리를 위해 하신 모든 일들을 생각해보면, 사랑이신 하나님이 우리를 얼마나 사랑하시는지를 기억할 수 있습니다(요한1서 4:8-10).
Psalm 103 lists the “benefits” God showers on us in love: He forgives our sin (v.3), satisfies us with good things (v.5), and executes righteousness and justice (v.6). He is slow to anger and abounds in mercy (v.8). He doesn’t deal with us as our sins deserve (v.10) and has removed our sin as far as the east is from the west (v.12). He has not forgotten us!		시편 103편에는 하나님이 우리에게 사랑으로 부어주신 “축복들”이 나열되어 있습니다. 하나님은 우리의 모든 죄악을 사하시고(3절), 좋은 것으로 우리 소원을 만족시키시며(5절), 의롭고 공의로운 일을 행하십니다(6절). 또 하나님은 노하기를 더디 하시며 인자하심이 풍부하십니다(8절). 우리의 죄를 따라 처치하지 아니하시며(10절), 동이 서에서 먼 것 같이 우리 죄과를 우리에게서 멀리 옮기셨습니다(12절). 하나님은 우리를 잊지 않으셨습니다!
