Creating Your Life		삶을 창조하기

The advice that I read in a self-help book sounded good: Do only what you’re great at because that’s when you’ll feel most fulfilled. The author was trying to help readers create the kind of life they wanted. I don’t know about you, but if I did only what I was great at, I wouldn’t accomplish much!		한 자기계발 서적에서 읽은 어떤 충고가 그럴듯하게 들렸습니다. “당신이 잘 할 수있는 일만을 하라. 왜냐하면 그럴 때 가장 보람을 느끼기 때문이다.” 저자는 독자들로 하여금 그들이 원하는 삶을 창조해나갈 수 있도록 도와주려 하고 있었습니다. 그러나 당신은 어떨지 모르지만, 내가 잘하는 일만 했었다면 나는 별로 많은 일을 성취하지 못했을 것입니다!
In Mark 10, we read about two disciples, James and John, who had some plans for the kind of life they wanted for themselves someday. They asked to be at Jesus’ right and left hand in His kingdom (v.37). The other 10 disciples were “greatly displeased” with them for asking (v.41). (Possibly because that was the kind of position they wanted for themselves!)		마가복음 10장에는 훗날 자신들에게 있기를 바랐던 삶에 대해 계획을 가지고 있었던 두 제자 야고보와 요한의 이야기가 나옵니다. 그들은 하나님 나라에서 예수님의 우편과 좌편에 앉게 되기를 원했습니다(37절). 다른 열 제자들은 그들이 요구한 것을 듣고는 “분하게여겼습니다”(41절). (아마도 그것은 그들도 원하는 자리였기 때문이었겠지요!)
But Jesus used the opportunity to teach His followers about another kind of life—one of serving others. He said, “Whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all” (vv.43-44). It appears that service for others is God’s design for us.		예수님은 그 상황을 기회로 삼아 제자들에게 다른 사람들을 섬기는 새로운 종류의 삶을 가르쳐주셨습니다. 주님은 말씀하셨습니다. “너희 중에 누구든지 크고자 하는 자는 너희를 섬기는 자가 되고, 너희 중에 누구든지 으뜸이 되고자 하는 자는 모든 사람의 종이 되어야 하리라”(43-44절). 하나님이 우리를 위해 계획해 놓으신 것은 다른 사람들을 섬기는 일인 것 같습니다.
Even Jesus, the Son of God, “did not come to be served, but to serve” (v.45). As we look at Christ’s example and depend on the Holy Spirit’s help, we too can be servants and will create a fulfilling life. —Anne Cetas		하나님의 아들이신 예수님조차도 “섬김을 받으려 함이 아니라 도리어 섬기려 한다”(45절)고 말씀하셨습니다. 우리가 예수님을 본받고 성령의 도우심에 의지할 때, 우리도 섬기는 자가 되어 충만한 삶을 창조해낼 수 있습니다.
I admit, Lord, that my eyes do get focused on myself. But I really do want to live from a heart  of love for You. Teach me to be a servant and to look for my fulfillment in You.		주님, 제가 제 자신에게 초점을 맞추고 살아감을  인정합니다. 그러나 진정으로 주님을 사랑하는  마음으로 살고 싶습니다. 섬기는 자가 되는 법과  주님 안에서 충만하게 사는 법을 가르쳐주소서.
Great occasions for serving God come seldom,  but little ones surround us daily.		하나님을 크게 섬길 수 있는 기회는 자주 오지 않지만, 작은 기회는 늘 우리 주변에 있다.
