I don’t agree with those who rail against material things and say that owning stuff is inherently evil. And I have to admit that I’m a consumer—often tempted to pad my pile of treasures with items I think I need.		나는 물질들을 매도하고, 물건을 소유하는 것이 본질적으로 악하다고 말하는 사람들에 동의하지 않습니다. 그리고 나는 소비자로서, 가끔 필요하다고 생각되는 좋은 물건들을 쟁여놓고 싶은 유혹을 받을 때가 있음을 시인합니다.
But I do recognize that one of the dangers of owning a lot of stuff is that it can lead to spiritual loss. The more we have and the more we feel as if we have all we need, the more prone we are to forget our need for God and even our desire for Him. Yet, ironically, everything we have comes ultimately from God, who “gives us richly all things to enjoy” (1 Tim. 6:17).		그러나 많은 물건들을 소유하게 되면 영적으로 실패할 위험이 있다는 것도 나는 분명히 알고 있습니다. 우리가 더 많이 소유하고, 필요한 것을 모두 갖고 있다고 느끼면 느낄수록, 우리는 하나님을 필요로 하는 마음과, 나아가 그분을 갈망하는 마음까지 더 쉽게 잊어버리게 됩니다. 하지만, 아이러니하게도 우리가 가진 모든 것들은 궁극적으로 “모든 것을 후히 주사 누리게 하시는”(디모데전서 6:17) 하나님께로부터 온 것입니다.
Sadly, our enjoyment of God’s provisions might just mean that we end up loving the gift and forgetting the Giver. This is why, when God was getting ready to give His people a life full of bounty in the Promised Land of good and plenty, He warned, “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God” (Deut. 8:11).		안타깝게도, 하나님이 공급해주시는 것들 을 즐긴다는 것이 그 선물만을 좋아하고 그것을 주신 분은 기억하지도 않는다는 것을 뜻하는지도 모르겠습니다. 그래서 하나님은 그의 백성들에게 아름답고 풍요로운 약속의 땅에서 풍성한 삶을 주시기 직전에 이렇게 경고하셨습니다. “네 하나님 여호와를 잊어버리게 되지 않도록 삼갈찌어다”(신명기 8:11).
If God has allowed you to enjoy material abundance, remind yourself where it came from. In fact, all of us, whether rich in this world’s goods or not, have much to be thankful for. Let’s heed the warning not to forget the Lord and praise Him for His abundant goodness. —Joe Stowell		하나님이 당신에게 물질적인 풍요를 허락하셨다면, 그것이 어디에서 왔는지를 기억하십시오. 사실, 우리 모두는 이 세상의 물질로 부요하든 그렇지 않든, 감사할 것이 많이 있습니다. 하나님을 잊지 말라는 경고에 깊이 유의하면서 하나님의 풍성한 선하심을 찬양합시다.

Love the Giver more than the gifts!		선물보다 선물 주신 이를 더 사랑하라!
