Not far from my house, authorities have rigged a camera to snap pictures of drivers who race through red lights. The offenders later receive in the mail a ticket along with a “red- light photo,” which is visual proof of their traffic violation.		교통당국이 우리 집에서 그리 멀지 않은 곳에 빨간 신호를 무시하고 달리는 운전자들의 사진을 찍기 위해 카메라를 설치해 놓았습니다. 신호위반자들은 나중에 신호 위반을 선명하게 보여주는 “빨간 신호 위반 사진”과 함께 벌금 딱지를 우편으로 받게 됩니다.
Sometimes I think of God in the same way I think of that camera—He’s up there, just waiting to catch me doing the wrong thing. While God does see our sin (Heb. 4:13), He sees and takes interest in our good deeds as well. Due to His supernatural surveillance, God sees the size of our sacrifice when we give money to the church or to those in need (Mark 12:41-44). He hears our private prayers (Matt. 6:6). And when we fast, we can carry on as usual being assured that our “Father . . . sees in secret” (v.18).		나는 하나님을 생각하면서 가끔 하나님을 그 카메라 같이 위에서 내가 잘못하는 것을 잡아내기 위해 지켜보고 있는 분으로 생각하기도 합니다. 하나님은 우리의 죄를 보시기도 하지만(히브리서 4:13), 우리의 착한 행실도 보시고 관심을 가지십니다. 하나님은 초자연적으로 감찰하고 계시기에, 우리가 교회에 헌금을 하거나 가난한 자들을 도와줄 때 우리가 어느 정도 희생하는지를 아십니다(마가복음 12:41- 44). 하나님은 우리가 은밀한 가운데 드리는 기도를 들으시고(마태복음 6:6), 우리가 금식할 때에도 하나님이 “은밀한 중에 보시는”(18절) 것을 확신하기에 우리는 평상시대로 하던 일을 자연스럽게 할 수 있습니다.
Knowing that God sees everything frees us from thinking about the watchful eyes of others. When we do what is right, we need no applause from onlookers; when we sin, we do not need to worry about our reputation once we settle the issue with God and anyone we’ve harmed. We can rest knowing that “the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (2 Chron. 16:9). —Jennifer Benson Schuldt		하나님이 모든 것을 보시고 계신다는 것을 알기에 우리는 다른 사람들의 시선으로부터도 자유롭습니다. 우리가 옳은 일을 행할 때 주변 사람들의 박수갈채를 필요로 하지 않습니다. 우리가 죄를 범할 때, 하나님과의 문제와 우리가 해를 끼친 사람과의 문제가 해결 된다면, 우리의 평판에 대해 걱정할 필요가 없습니다. “여호와의 눈은 온 땅을 감찰하사 전심으로 자기에게 향하는 자를 위하여 능력을 베푸시나니”(역대하 16:9)라는 말씀을 알기에 우리는 평안을 누릴 수가 있습니다.
Lord, thank You for Your all-seeing nature. You  know everything I think and do. Help me to  value Your approval and live according to Your  standards, no matter what anyone else may think.		주님, 모든 것을 감찰하시는 주님께 감사드립니다.  저의 생각과 행위를 모두 아시는 주님, 사람들이  어떻게 생각하든 주님이 인정하시는 것에 가치를  두게 하시고, 주님의 기준에 따라 살게 도와주소서.
Others see what we do, but God sees why we do it.		사람들은 우리가 무엇을 하는지를 보지만,  하나님은 왜 하는지를 보신다.
