Once, during my tenure as a human resource officer for a construction company, we took some jobs in a neighboring state. This meant our workers were faced with a 2-hour commute each way, plus a full workday. To ease the burden, we booked motel rooms for the week, but we also arranged vans and drivers to transport those who decided to commute. Almost every worker took the vans!		어느 건설회사의 인사부서에서 일하고 있을 때, 한번은 우리 회사가 인접한 다른 주에서 일을 수주 받은 적이 있었습니다. 그 일을 하려면 우리 직원들은 정상 근무 시간 외에도 편도 2시간씩 출퇴근 시간이 더 필요했습니다. 그래서 그 부담을 덜어주기 위해 주중 동안 묵을 모텔을 예약했고, 통근자들을 위해서는 차량과 운전기사를 배치했습니다. 그랬더니 거의 모든 직원들이 통근차량을 이용했습니다!
One of our grumpiest workers discarded his usual demeanor as he described the thrill and surprise of his wife and four boys on the first night. He hadn’t told them he had an option to come home, so he showed up unexpectedly to surprise them. Later his wife called to thank the company owner, telling him their family was “loyal for life” to anyone who understood how important home was to workers.		아주 무뚝뚝한 한 직원이 그의 평소 태도와는 달리 통근을 시작한 첫 날 밤에 그의 아내와 네 아들이 보인 감격과 놀라움을 이야기해주었습니다. 그는 가족들에게 집으로 퇴근할 수도 있다는 것을 말해주지 않았다가 갑자기 나타나 그들을 놀라게 했습니다. 나중에 그의 아내는 회사 사장에게 감사의 전화를 걸어, 그들의 가족은 직장인에게 가정이 얼마나 중요한지를 이해하는 사람에게 “평생 충성”하겠노라고 말했습니다.
Anyone who has been deprived of home, even for a short time, will understand the comfort Jesus’ disciples drew from His words when He promised that an eternal home awaited them (John 14:2). Then, to make their joy complete, Jesus told them He would prepare and guide them to that home, and, joy of joys, He would be there too (v.3).		짧은 기간이라도 집을 빼앗겨본 적이 있는 사람이라면, 예수님이 제자들에게 영원한 집이 그들을 기다리고 있다는 약속을 하셨을 때(요한복음 14:2) 그들이 가졌을 위로를 이해할 수 있을 것입니다. 그리고 그들의 기쁨을 확실히 해주시려고, 예수님은 주님이 직접 그 집을 예비하시고 그곳으로 인도하실 거라고 말씀하셨습니다. 그리고 무엇보다도 기쁘게 주님도 그곳에 함께 계실 거라고 말씀하셨습니다(3절).
