Overcoming Bad News		나쁜 소식 극복하기

There are many who say, ‘Who will show us any good?’ ” (Ps. 4:6). These words of David seem to describe the pessimistic outlook we so easily develop in our world today. The front page of newspapers and the top stories on the Internet or television seem to focus on crime, accidents, politics, the economy, and prominent people behaving badly. Our conversations at work and home begin to dwell on difficulties, and it’s enough to discourage anyone. Where can we turn for better news?		“우리에게 선을 보일 자 누구뇨”(시편 4:6)라고 말하는 사람들이 많습니다. 다윗의 이 말은 요즘 같은 세상에 우리가 쉽게 가지는 비관적인 견해를 묘사하는 것처럼 보입니다. 신문의 일면기사와 인터넷이나 텔레비전의 첫 소식들은 범죄나 사고, 정치, 경제, 그리고 유명인사의 부당한 처신에 집중되고 있는 것 같습니다. 직장이나 가정에서 우리의 대화는 어려운 일들을 강조하는 것으로 시작하며, 그것은 듣는 이들을 대부분 낙담시킵니다. 어디에서 우리는 좋은 소식을 들을 수 있을까요?
In the midst of his troubles, David turned to the Lord, who relieved his distress (v.1) and heard his prayer (v.3). Instead of hoping for temporary good from altered circumstances, he found unceasing encouragement in God. “Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us” (v.6). The result was a gladness of heart that surpassed any earthly prosperity or success (v.7).		다윗은 환난 가운데서 그를 곤란한 중에 건져주시고(1절) 그의 기도를 들어주신(3절) 주님을 향해 돌아섰습니다. 다윗은 상황의 변화로 얻어지는 일시적으로 좋은 것을 희망하는 대신 주님 안에서 끊임없는 격려를 발견했습니다. “여호와여 주의 얼굴을 들어 우리에게 비취소서”(6절). 그 결과는 어떤 세상적인 번영이나 성공보다 훨씬 더 큰 마음의 기쁨이었습니다(7절).
Throughout David’s life, before and after he became king of Israel, he was never without opposition. But at the end of the day, he could say, “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety” (v.8).		다윗의 인생 전반에 걸쳐서, 이스라엘의 왕이 되기 전이나 후에 그에게는 항상 적대세력이 있었습니다. 하지만 하루가 저물 때에 그는 “내가 평안히 눕고 자기도 하리니 나를 안전히 거하게 하시는 이는 오직 여호와시니이다”(8절)라고 말할 수 있었습니다.
Pondering the truths in Psalm 4 about God’s care for us is a good way to begin and end every day. —David McCasland		시편 4편에서 말하고 있는, 우리를 향한 하나님의 돌보심에 대한 진리를 묵상하며 하루하루를 시작하고 마감하는 것은 바람직한 방법입니다.
