After 10 years of renting in a charming location, we discovered that our landlord suddenly needed to sell the house. I asked God to change the circumstances and make it possible for my wife and me to stay in this place we’d made home, where we’d watched our children grow up. But God said no.		우리는 마음에 쏙 드는 장소에서 10년 간 세 들어 살았었는데 집 주인이 갑자기 집을 팔아야 한다고 알려왔습니다. 나는 하나님께 이 상황을 바꿔주셔서 나와 아내가 가정을 꾸미고 살면서 아이들이 자라는 것을 지켜보았던 이 집에서 그대로 살 수 있게 해달라고 간구하였습니다. 그러나 하나님은 ‘아니다’라고 말씀하셨습니다.
When it comes to my needs, I worry that I’m asking for the wrong thing or that I’m not worthy of the request I’m making. But God’s no doesn’t need to shake our faith when we’re grounded —surrounded I like to say—in His love. In Ephesians 3, Paul understood that those who know the love of Christ intimately (vv.16-17) can trust God to have a loving reason for saying no.		내 필요를 하나님 앞에 구할 때면 나는 내가 잘못 구하고 있는 것은 아닌지, 아니면 이런 것들을 구할 자격이 없는 것은 아닌지 염려됩니다. 그러나 우리의 믿음이 하나님의 사랑 안에서 확고하다면, 아니 그 사랑에 둘러싸여 있다면, 하나님이 응답하시지 않는다 해도 우리의 믿음이 흔들릴 필요가 없습니다. 에베소서 3장에서 바울은 그리스도의 사랑을 마음 속 깊이 아는 사람들은(16-17절) 하나님께서 ‘아니다’라고 하시는 사랑의 이유를 알고 그분을 신뢰할 수 있다는 것을 알았습니다.
Shortly after hearing “no” from God about my request, friends from church offered to rent us a home they were vacating. Our new location—with new appliances, new plumbing, new electrical wiring, and an extra bedroom—sits on the ocean, an idyllic scene of ships, sails, and sounds that daily remind us that God is bigger than any issue we face. Our loving Father used loving friends to give more than we asked.		“아니다”라고 하신 하나님의 응답을 들은지 얼마 되지 않아서 교회 친구가 그들이 비우게 될 집에 세 들지 않겠냐고 우리에게 제안해왔습니다. 우리가 이사할 그 새로운 장소는 새 가전제품과 새 상하수도 시설, 새 전기선이 있고, 방이 하나 더 딸린 바닷가에 위치한 집으로서, 여유롭게 지나가는 배들을 볼 수 있고, 거기서 들리는 소리들은 하나님이 우리가 당면하고 있는 어떤 것보다 더 크신 분이시라는 것을 날마다 상기시켜 주는 곳이었습니다. 사랑의 아버지하나님은 우리가 간구한 것보다 더 좋은 것을 주시기 위해 사랑하는 친구를 사용하셨습니다.
Whether God gives us more than we imagined or far less than we desired, we can trust that His plans are much better than ours. —Randy Kilgore		하나님께서 우리가 생각했던 것보다 더 좋은 것을 주시든지 혹은 우리가 원했던 것보다 훨씬 덜 좋은 것을 주시든지, 우리가 확신할 수 있는 것은 하나님의 계획이 우리의 계획보다 훨씬 더 낫다는 것입니다.
Lord, we know that You are good whether Your answers to our prayers are abundantly more than we asked or much less than we desire. Help us to accept whatever comes to us from Your hand. Thank You.		주님, 주님의 응답이 우리가 간구한 것보다 훨씬 더 풍성하든지 혹은 우리의 소원에 미치지 못하든지 주님은 선하신 분이라는 것을 압니다. 주님의 손으로부터 오는 어떤 것도 그대로 받을 수 있게 도와주시옵소서. 주님, 감사합니다.
When God says no to our request, we can be sure it’s for the best.		하나님이 우리의 간구에 ‘아니다’라고 하실 때, 우리는 그것이 최상의 것을 위함이라는 것을 확신할 수 있다.
