Marilyn and Steven had been married just a few years, and money was tight. But as she looked at their threadbare bedspread, she wanted to replace it. So she decided she would buy a new one with a credit card—hoping to somehow find the money to pay it off.		결혼한 지 불과 몇 년 되지 않은 마릴린과 스티븐은 살림은 빠듯했습니다. 그러나 마릴린은 다 낡은 침대보를 보자 그것을 바꾸고 싶은 생각이 들었습니다. 그래서 어떻게든 갚을 수 있을 거라고 믿고 신용카드로 새것을 사기로 하였습니다.
Her devotional reading for the day surprised her when it pointed her to Proverbs 22:27, “If you lack the means to pay, your very bed will be snatched from under you” (niv). Marilyn decided not to go into debt for a new bedspread that day.		하지만 그날 경건의 시간에 “만일 갚을 것이 없으면 네 누운 침상도 빼앗길 것이라”는 잠언 22장 27절 말씀을 읽고는 깜짝 놀랐습니다. 그날 마릴린은 마음을 바꾸어 빚을 져가며 새 침대보를 사지 않기로 했습니다.
Decisions about the way we spend our money are a personal matter between us and the Lord and can be difficult to make. But God hasn’t left us without help. He tells us: “Honor the Lord with your possessions” (Prov. 3:9), and “You cannot serve both God and Money” (Matt. 6:24 niv).		돈을 어떻게 쓸지 결정하는 것은 우리자신과 주님 사이의 개인적인 문제로 쉽지 않은 일입니다. 그러나 하나님은 우리를 도움 없이 내버려두지 않으셨습니다. 하나님은 우리에게 “네 재물로 여호와를 공경하라”(잠언 3:9), “하나님과 재물을 겸하여 섬기지 못하느니라”(마태복음 6:24)고 말씀하십니다.
With such truths in mind, we look further in His Word for help to use money wisely. We find this: “Beware of covetousness” (Luke 12:15). Another says, “The borrower is servant to the lender” (Prov. 22:7). And in 1 Timothy we read, be “ready to give, willing to share” (6:18).		그런 진리를 염두에 두고 돈을 지혜롭게 쓰기 위해 하나님의 말씀을 더 깊이 보면 “탐심을 물리치라”(누가복음 12:15), “빚진 자는 채주의 종이 되느니라”(잠언 22:7)라는 말씀도 보게 됩니다. 그리고 디모데전서에는 “나눠주기를 좋아하며 동정하는 자가 되라”(6:18)고 쓰여 있습니다.
Money is a big issue. God, who provides for all our needs, can show us how to use it to bring Him honor. —Dave Branon		돈은 매우 중요한 문제입니다. 우리의 모든 필요를 채우시는 하나님은 돈을 어떻게 써야 그분을 영화롭게 하는지를 우리에게 보여주십니다.
Lord, sometimes money and finances are overwhelming. It’s hard to know what decisions to make, so please lead me and give the wisdom to use my finances in a way that pleases You.		주님, 때때로 재물이 저를 당혹하게 합니다.  어떻게 써야 할지 알기 어렵습니다.  부디 나를 이끄셔서 주님이 기뻐하시는 방법으로  재물을 사용하는 지혜를 주시옵소서.
Never let gold become your god.		절대로 금이 당신의 신이 되지 않도록 하라.
