Widows in biblical times often faced a life of poverty. That’s the situation Ruth and her mother-in-law, Naomi, were in after each woman lost her husband. But God had a plan to provide security for them while involving Ruth as an integral part of a much bigger plan.		성경에 나타난 과부들은 빈곤한 생활을 면치 못하는 경우가 많았습니다. 룻과 그녀의 시어머니 나오미도 각각 남편을 여윈 후 이런 처지에 놓이게 되었습니다. 그러나 하나님은 이들에게 안정된 삶을 제공해주실 계획을 갖고 계셨는데, 그것은 룻을 중심으로 한 훨씬 더 큰 계획의 일부였습니다.
Boaz, a wealthy landowner, knew of and admired Ruth (Ruth 2:5-12), but he was surprised when he awoke one night to see her lying at his feet (3:8). She asked him to “spread the corner” of his garment over her to indicate that as a close relative he was willing to be her “kinsman-redeemer” (v.9 niv). This was more than a request for protection; she was requesting marriage. Boaz agreed to marry her (vv.11 -13; 4:13).		부유한 지주인 보아스는 룻에 대해 잘 알고, 그녀에 대해 호감을 갖고 있었습니다(룻기 2:5-12). 그런데 어느 날 밤 잠에서 깨어 보니 룻이 그의 발치에 누워있는 것을 보고 깜짝 놀랐습니다(3:8). 그녀는 보아스에게 가까운 친족으로서 자기의 “기업을 무를 자”(9절)가 되어주겠다는 표시로 그의 옷자락으로 그녀를 덮어달라고 요청했습니다. 이것은 그저 보호해달라는 요청이 아닌 결혼해줄 것을 요청한 것입니다. 보아스는 그녀의 요청을 들어주어 그녀와 결혼했습니다(11-13절; 4:13).
Not exactly your typical romantic tale. But Ruth’s choice to follow Naomi’s instructions (3:3-6) set up a series of events that placed her in God’s plan of redemption! From Ruth’s marriage to Boaz came a son (Obed), the eventual grandfather of King David (4:17). Generations later, Joseph was born to the family, and he became the “legal father” of Mary’s child (Matt. 1:16-17; Luke 2:4-5)—our Kinsman- Redeemer, Jesus.		당신이 생각할 수 있는 그런 로맨틱한 이야기는 아닐지 몰라도, 룻은 나오미의 지시를 따름으로써(3: 3-6) 결국은 일련의 사건들을 통해 하나님의 구원 계획에 참여하게 된 것이었습니다. 룻은 보아스와 결혼하여 아들(오벳)을 낳았는데, 그는 나중에 다윗왕의 할아버지가 됩니다(4:17). 그 후 여러 세대가 지나고 그 가문에 요셉이 태어나, 우리 기업을 무를 자, 곧 구주이신 마리아의 아들(마태복음 1:16-17; 누가복음 2:4-5)의 “법적인 부친”이 되었습니다.
Ruth trusted God and followed Naomi’s instructions even though the ending was uncertain. We too can count on God to provide for us when life is unsure. —Cindy Hess Kasper		룻은 하나님을 신뢰했고, 비록 그 결과에 대한 확신은 없었지만 나오미의 지시에 순종했습니다. 우리도 삶이 불확실할 때, 하나님이 우리에게 필요한 것을 공급해주신다는 것을 믿을 수 있습니다.
Lord, give us humility and sensitivity to listen  to advice from loved ones who know You well.  Show us the right thing to do in our uncertain  times and to trust You for the results. Amen.		주님, 하나님을 잘 알고 있는 사랑하는 사람들의 충고에 귀 기울여 들을 줄 아는 겸손함과 민감한 마음을 주시옵소서. 우리의 불확실한 때에 마땅히 해야 할 일을 보여주시고 그 결과는 주님께 맡기게 하옵소서. 아멘.
