When torrential downpours beat on the heads of my newly planted petunias, I felt bad for them. I wanted to bring them inside to shelter them from the storm. By the time the rain stopped, their little faces were bowed to the ground from the weight of the water. They looked sad and weak. Within a few hours, however, they perked up and turned their heads skyward. By the next day, they were standing straight and strong.		밑으로 내려치는 강한 물줄기가 새로 심은 페투니아 봉오리들을 마구 칠 때 나는 마음이 아팠습니다. 나는 폭우를 피해 그 꽃들을 안전한 곳으로 옮기고 싶었습니다. 비가 그치자 그 작은 봉오리들이 빗물의 무게를 견디지 못하고 땅 쪽으로 굽어있었습니다. 마치 슬픔에 잠기고 연약하게 보였습니다. 그러나 몇 시간 후에 생기가 돌아와 봉오리들은 하늘을 향해 있었습니다. 그리고 다음 날은 힘있게 똑바로 서 있었습니다.
What a transformation! After pounding them on the head, the rain dripped from their leaves, soaked into the soil, and came up through their stalks, giving them the strength to stand straight.		참으로 신기한 변형입니다! 빗물이 머리를친 다음 잎사귀의 물이 땅으로 스며들어 식물의 줄기들이 꼿꼿하게 설 수 있는 힘을 보태주었으니 말입니다.
Because I prefer sunshine, I get annoyed when rain spoils my outdoor plans. I sometimes wrongly think of rain as something negative. But anyone who has experienced drought knows that rain is a blessing. It nourishes the earth for the benefit of both the just and the unjust (Matt. 5:45).		햇빛을 좋아하는 나는 밖에 있는 나의 식물들이 비를 세게 맞을 때 기분이 좋지 않습니다. 때때로 나는 비를 안 좋은 것으로 생각합니다. 물론 잘못된 생각입니다. 가뭄을 경험한 사람들은 비가 축복인 것을 압니다. 비는 의로운 자와 불의한 자에게도 똑같이 내리고 지구에 영양분을 제공합니다(마태복음 5: 45).

He uses the water that batters us on the outside to build us up on the inside, so we may stand straight and strong. —Julie Ackerman Link		비록 인생의 폭풍우가 매우 심해 우리를 기진맥진하게 만든다고 해도 “비”는 적이 아닙니다. 사랑 많으신 우리 하나님은 비를 통해 우리를 강건하게 만드십니다. 하나님은 밖에서 우리를 때리는 물을 사용하여 우리의 내면을 견고하게 하셔서 우리가 똑바로 힘 있게 설 수 있게 만들어주십니다.
Lord, we know that we don’t need to fear the storms of life. Because You are good,  we can trust You to use even our hard times  to build our faith in You. We lean on You now.		주님, 우리는 인생의 폭풍우를 두려워할 필요가 없다는 것을 압니다. 주님은 선하시고, 우리의  힘든 시간까지도 주님을 믿는 우리의 믿음을  자라게 하는데 쓰시는 주님을 신뢰할 수 있기 때문입니다. 우리는 지금 주님을 의지합니다.
The storms that threaten to destroy us God will use to strengthen us.		폭풍우가 우리를 파괴한다고 위협해도,  하나님은 그것을 사용하여 우리를 강하게 하신다.
