[365묵상] 사람을 소중히 여기라 Cherish People

[ 콰야 : 우리 밤하늘에 수놓은 별처럼 떠있는 달처럼 ]

 

 

 

 

< 사람을 소중히 여기라 >

    너는 이방 나그네를 압제하지 말며 그들을 학대하지 말라
    너희도 애굽 땅에서 나그네였음이라 (출애굽기 22:21)

 

 고대에 이방인은 사유 재산권이 없었고 법적인 도움도 제대로 받지 못해 경제적 착취나 물리적 폭력에 노출되기 쉬웠다. 왜 하나님은 히브리인들에게 이방 나그네를 압제하거나 학대하지 말라고 하셨는가? 그들도 애굽 땅에서 이방인으로서 설움 받았기 때문이다.

 개구리가 되었다고 올챙이 시절을 외면하면 안 된다. ‘민족적인 자부심’은 가지되 ‘민족적인 교만’은 없어야 한다. 이방인을 멸시하는 교만한 태도는 하나님의 진노를 부른다. 하나님은 세상을 다채롭게 창조하셨고 다양성에 기초해 세워 가신다. 인종, 피부색, 출신지, 국적, 그리고 종교의 차이를 넘어서 기본적으로 사람을 소중히 여기는 것이 하나님의 뜻이다.

 극단적인 민족주의가 기생하는 터전이 있다. 현실의 경쟁에서 뒤처졌다고 자신을 3등 시민으로 여기는 사람들의 좌절감이다. 그 좌절감은 편견의 희생양을 찾아 남을 멸시함으로 일시적인 정신적 환락 상태를 추구하게 한다. 결국 이방인에 대한 극단적인 편견과 배타와 독설은 자신이 못난 좌절감 속에서 허우적대는 인생임을 나타내는 표식이다.

 사람은 누구나 위험한 존재가 될 수 있다. 이방인들이 위험한 존재만은 아니다. 그들이 때로는 위험을 초래하기보다 미지의 선물을 가져다주기도 한다. 낯선 경험이 영혼을 새롭게 하듯이 이방인은 하나님의 뜻을 새롭게 알려 주는 통로가 되기도 한다. 이방인을 잘 대접하면 나그네인 줄 알고 영접했다가 하나님의 사자를 영접한 아브라함의 축복이 내게도 주어질 수 있다.

    하나님! 다양성을 존중하고 모든 사람을 소중히 여김으로
    하나님의 사랑 안에서 아브라함의 축복을 공유하게 하소서.

 

 

< Cherish People >

   Do not mistreat an alien or oppress him,
   for you were aliens in Egypt. (Exodus 22:21)

 

 In ancient times, aliens had no private property rights and did not receive proper legal help, so they were easily exposed to economic exploitation or physical violence. Why did God tell the Hebrews not to mistreat or oppress aliens? It is because they were also saddened as aliens in the land of Egypt.

 Just because you're a frog, you shouldn't forget your tadpole days. You must have national pride, but not national arrogance. The arrogant attitude of despising aliens calls for the wrath of God. God created the world in variety and builds it on the basis of diversity. It is basically God's will to cherish people beyond differences in race, skin color, place of origin, nationality, and religion.

 There is a place where extreme nationalism is parasitic. It is the frustration of those who regard themselves as third-class citizens because they are behind in real-life competition. It leads them to pursue a temporary state of mental pleasure by finding a victim of prejudice and despising others. In the end, extreme prejudice, exclusion, and slander against aliens are signs of a life struggling in ugly frustration.

 Anyone can be a danger. Aliens are not the only dangerous people. They sometimes bring unknown gifts rather than risks. Just as an unfamiliar experience renews the soul, an alien can also be a channel through which God's will is newly revealed. If you treat an alien well, the blessing of Abraham, who greeted God's angel after thinking that he was an alien, can also be given to you.

   God! Let me share Abraham's blessing in God's love
   by respecting diversity and cherishing everyone.
