Watchman Nee was arrested for his faith in Christ in 1952, and he spent the rest of his life in prison. He died in his jail cell on May 30, 1972. When his niece came to collect his few possessions, she was given a scrap of paper that a guard had found by his bed. On it was written his life’s testimony:		워치만 니는 1952년에 그리스도를 믿는다는 이유로 구금되어 남은 생애를 감옥에서 보내다가, 1972년 5월 30일에 감옥에서 죽었습니다. 그의 조카가 유품을 찾으러 왔을 때 간수가 그의 침대 옆에서 발견한 종잇조각 하나를 건네주었습니다. 거기에는 그의 삶을 대표하는 간증이 쓰여 있었습니다.
“Christ is the Son of God who died for the redemption of sinners and was resurrected after three days. This is the greatest truth in the universe. I die because of my belief in Christ—Watchman Nee.”		“그리스도는 죄인들을 대속하시기 위해 돌아가시고 삼일 후에 부활하신 하나님의 아들이시다. 이는 온 우주에서 가장 위대한 진리이다. 나는 그리스도를 믿는 나의 믿음 때문에 죽는다. 워치만 니.”
Tradition says that the apostle Paul also was martyred for his faith in Christ. In a letter written shortly before his death, Paul exhorted his readers: “Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, for which I suffer trouble . . . ; but the Word of God is not chained” (2 Tim. 2:8-9).		전해 내려오는 말에 의하면 바울사도도 그리스도를 믿는 믿음 때문에 순교 당했다고 합니다. 죽기 조금 전에 쓴 편지에서 바울은 수신인들에게 이렇게 강권하였습니다. “나의 복음과 같이 다윗의 씨로 죽은 자 가운데서 다시 살으신 예수 그리스도를 기억하라. 복음을 인하여 내가......고난을 받았으나 하나님의 말씀은 매이지 아니하니라”(디모데후서 2:8-9)
We may not be called upon to be martyred as witnesses to the reality of Christ—as millions of His followers through the centuries have been—but we are all called to be a living testament of Jesus’ work on our behalf. No matter the outcome, from a heart of gratitude for God’s gracious gift we can tell others what Jesus has done for us. —Dennis Fisher		기독교의 긴 역사를 통해 수많은 그리스도인들이 살아계신 그리스도의 증인으로 순교의 부름을 받았습니다. 우리가 그러한 부름을 받지는 않았을는지는 몰라도 우리 모두는 우리를 대속하신 예수님을 증거하는 산 증인으로 부름을 받았습니다. 결과에 상관없이 하나님의 은혜의 선물에 감사하는 마음으로 우리는 예수님이 우리를 위해 하신 일을 다른 사람들에게 말해야 합니다.
