Recently I was having trouble with my ears and decided to try a somewhat controversial treatment. It was supposed to melt the wax in my ears and clear out any impediments that might get in the way of the ability to hear. I have to admit that it sounded like a strange experience. But I was desperate to be able to hear clearly, so I was willing to give it a try.		최근 귀에 이상이 있음을 알게 된 나는 약간은 논란의 여지가 있는 한 치료법을 써보기로 하였습니다. 그것은 귀 속의 귀지를 녹여 듣는 것을 방해하는 장애물들을 깨끗이 치우는 방법입니다. 물론 이상한 방법처럼 들릴지 모르겠지만, 확실하게 들을 수 있기를 간절히 바라는 나로서는 기꺼이 그 방법을 시도해보기로 하였습니다.
As important as good hearing is in life, it is even more important in our walk with God. In Psalm 40:6, David declared, “Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; my ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require.” The word opened in this verse can be translated “cleared out,” and it speaks of what God desires for us. He wants our ears to be open and ready to hear Him as He speaks to us through His Word. Sometimes, however, our spiritual ears may be blocked by the background noise of the surrounding culture or the siren songs of temptation and sin.		잘 듣는 것은 삶에서도 중요한 요소이지만, 하나님과 동행하는데 있어서는 더욱 중요합니다. 시편 40편 6절에서 다윗은 이렇게 선언합니다. “주께서 나의 귀를 통하여 들리시기를 제사와 예물을 기뻐 아니하시며 번제와 속죄제를 요구치 아니하신다 하신지라.” 여기에서 귀를 ‘통하여 들리신다’는 말은 귀를 ‘깨끗이 치운다’라는 말로 번역될 수 있는데,  이는 하나님이 우리에게 바라시는 것이 무엇인지를 바로 말해주고 있습니다. 하나님이 성경을 통해 우리에게 말씀하실 때 하나님은 우리가 귀를 열어 말씀을 들을 준비가 되어 있기를 바라십니다. 그러나 때때로 우리를 둘러싼 문화의 잡다한 배경소음들이나 유혹과 죄로 가득한 사이렌(바다요정)의 노랫소리들로 우리의 영적인 귀가 막혀버릴 수 있습니다.
May we instead turn our hearts to the Lord in full devotion, keeping our ears open to Him so that we will be sensitive to His voice. As He speaks, He will put His Word in our hearts, and we will learn from Him to delight in His will (v.8). —Bill Crowder		우리는 이와는 반대로, 우리의 마음을 온전히 헌신하여 주님께로 향하고, 주님의 음성에 민감하게 반응할 수 있도록 우리의 귀를 주님께 항상 열어둘 수 있게 되기를 바랍니다. 주님이 말씀하실 때 주님은 우리 마음에 주님의 말씀을 심으실 것이며, 우리는 주님으로부터 주님의 뜻 안에서 기뻐하는 것을 배우게 될 것입니다(8절).

God speaks through His Word to those who listen with their heart.		하나님은 마음을 열고 듣는 사람들에게 성경을 통해 말씀하신다.
