• OUR FATHER’S WORLD

  The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein. -Psalm 24:1When Amanda Benavides was a sophomore at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California, she began to rethink her views on Christian stewardship of the earth. Amanda had grown up thinking that being conscious of the environment had nothing to do with her relationship with Jesus. All this changed when she was challenged to consider the Christian’s role in caring for the planet?especially how that relates to reaching the most needy in the world. 
  
  Our stewardship of the beautiful world God gave us, and our care for the people in it, express our reverence for God and is grounded in two biblical principles. 
  
  First, the earth belongs to God (Ps. 24:1-2). The psalmist praised the Lord for His creation and His ownership of it. The heavens, the earth, and all that are in it are His. He created it, He is sovereign over it (93:1-2), and He cares for it (Matt. 6:26-30). Second, God delegated the responsibility for the well-being of His earth to us (Gen. 1:26-28). This includes appreciation of and care for both nature (Lev. 25:2-5,11; Prov. 12:10) and people (Rom. 15:2).

  땅과 거기에 충만한 것과 세계와 그 가운데에 사는 자들은 다 여호와의 것이로다-시편 24:1아만다 베나비데즈는 캘리포니아 주 샌디에고에 있는 포인트 로마 나사렛대학교 2학년 학생이었을 때, 이 세상에서 기독교인의 종교적 책임에 관한 그녀의 관점을 다시 생각하기 시작했습니다. 아만다는 자신이 지닌 환경에 대한 의식은 자신과 주님과의 관계와 아무런 상관이 없다고 생각하며 자라났습니다. 하지만 지구의 환경을 지키는 일에 그리스도인의 역할이 무엇인지, 특히 그것이 이 세상에서 가장 도움이 필요한 사람들에게 손을 내미는 것과 어떤 관계가 있는지 생각하게 되었을 때 이 모든 것이 바뀌었습니다. 
  
  하나님이 우리에게 주신 아름다운 세계에 대한 우리의 책임과 그 안에 살고 있는 사람들을 배려하는 것은 하나님을 존경하는 표현이며 두 가지 성경적 원칙에 근거한 것입니다. 
  
  첫째, 땅은 하나님께 속한 것입니다(시 24:1-2). 시편기자는 하나님의 창조와 땅에 대한 하나님의 주권을 기리며 주님을 찬양했습니다. 하늘과 땅, 그리고 그 안에 있는 모든 것은 다 하나님의 소유입니다. 하나님이 창조하셨고, 그것을 통치하시며(93:1-2), 그것을 돌보십니다(마 6:26-30). 둘째, 하나님은 그분이 만드신 세상의 안녕을 우리에게 위임하셨습니다(창 1:26-28). 여기에는 자연(레 25:2-5,11; 잠 12:10)과 사람들(롬 15:2)을 존중하며 돌보는 것이 포함됩니다. 
  
  이 세상은 우리 하나님의 세상입니다. 세상을 존중하고 그곳에 사는 사람들을 돌봄으로써 우리가 하나님을 얼마나 사랑하는지를 보여드립시다.하나님께서 창조하신 자연 세계는 
  마구 사용되어서는 안 되네 
  우리는 하나님의 세계를 하나님께 책임지는 
  책임자로서 섬겨야 하네하나님의 창조물을 잘못 취급하면 창조주를 노엽게 한다.
