Every year, I enjoy listening to the BBC’s worldwide live radio broadcast of the Christmas Eve service from King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England. This Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols combines Scripture readings, prayers, and choral music in a moving service of worship. One year, I was struck by the announcer’s description of the congregation leaving the magnificent chapel, saying they were “stepping out of this moment of grace and back into the real world.”		매년 나는 BBC 라디오방송이 영국 캠브리지에 있는 킹스 칼리지의 성탄전야 예배를 전 세계에 생중계하는 것을 즐겨 듣습니다. ‘9개의 교훈과 캐럴 축제’라고 불리는 이 예배는 성경읽기와 기도, 합창으로 이루어진 감동적인 예배입니다. 어느 해인가 나는 아나운서가 그 웅장한 예배당을 떠나는 성도들을 보며 성도들이 “은혜의 순간을 떠나 현실 세계로 되돌아간다.”고 묘사하는 것을 듣고는 깜짝 놀랐습니다.
Wasn’t it that way on the first Christmas? The shepherds heard an angel announce the birth of the Savior, Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11), followed by a “multitude of the heavenly host praising God” (vv.13-14). After they found Mary, Joseph, and the Baby in Bethlehem, the shepherds couldn’t help telling others about this Child (v.17). “The shepherds went back to work, glorifying and praising God for everything that they had heard and seen, which had happened just as they had been told” (v.20 Phillips).		첫 번째 성탄절의 광경이 바로 그와 같은 것이 아니었을까요? 목자들은 한 천사가 구주 곧 그리스도가 태어나셨다고 전해주는 것을 들은 후(누가복음 2:11), 이어 “허다한 천군이 하나님을 찬송하는 것”(13-14절)을 들었습니다. 베들레헴을 찾아가 마리아와 요셉과 아기 예수를 만난 그 목자들은 이 아기에 대해 사람들에게 말하지 않고는 견딜 수 없었습니다(17절). “목자가 자기들에게 이르던 바와 같이 듣고 본 그 모든 것을 인하여 하나님께 영광을 돌리고 찬송하며 돌아가니라”(20절).
They had been changed by their “moment of grace.” As they stepped back into their real world, they carried the good news about Jesus in their hearts and voices.		그들이 경험한 “은혜의 순간” 때문에 그들은 변화되었습니다. 그들은 현실 세계로 되돌아가면서 예수님에 대한 기쁜 소식을 마음에 간직하며 목소리로 전했습니다.
