In a documentary film about three legendary guitarists, Jack White described the first essential for writing a song: “If you don’t have a struggle already inside of you or around you, you have to make one up.”		전설적인 세 사람의 기타리스트들을 다룬 기록영화에서, 잭 화이트는 작곡의 가장 핵심적인 요소를 다음과 같이 설명했습니다. “당신 자신이나 당신 주변에 아직 고난이 없다면, 당신은 고난을 하나 만들어야 합니다.”
The songs that mean the most to us give expression to our deepest feelings. Many of the Psalms, often called “the Bible’s songbook,” were born out of struggle. They capture our disappointments and fears, yet they always point us toward the faithful love of God.		우리에게 가장 의미 있는 노래들은 우리의 가장 깊은 내면의 감정을 향해 표현을 합니다. “성경의 노래책”이라 불리는 시편 가운데 여러 편들은 고난 속에서 쓰였습니다. 그것들은 우리의 절망과 두려움을 표현하고는 있지만, 언제나 우리를 하나님의 신실하신 사랑으로 향하게 해줍니다.
In Psalm 31, David wrote: “Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I am in trouble; my eye wastes away with grief, yes, my soul and my body!” (v.9). He speaks of a trap set for him (v.4), his own sin (v.10), abandonment by friends (vv.11-12), and plots against his life (v.13).		시편 31편에서 다윗은 이렇게 썼습니다. “여호와여 내 고통을 인하여 나를 긍휼히 여기소서 내가 근심으로 눈과 혼과 몸이 쇠하였나이다”(9절). 그리고 그를 위해 친 함정(4절), 자신의 죄악(10절), 친구들로부터 버림받음(11-12절), 자신의 생명을 노리는 음모(13절) 등을 이야기합니다.
Yet, David’s hope was not in his own strength, but in God. “I trust in You, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me” (vv.14-15).		그러나 다윗은 소망을 자신의 능력이 아닌, 하나님께 두었습니다. “여호와여 그러하여도 나는 주께 의지하고 말하기를 주는 내 하나님이시라 하였나이다 내 시대가 주의 손에 있사오니 내 원수와 핍박하는 자의 손에서 나를 건지소서”(14-15절).
The Psalms invite us to pour out our hearts to God, because He has stored up His goodness for those who trust in Him (v.19). —David McCasland		하나님은 그분을 신뢰하는 사람들에게 베풀기 위해 주님의 인자를 잔뜩 쌓아놓으신 분이기에(19절), 시편은 우리에게 우리의 마음을 하나님 앞에 쏟아놓으라고 권면하고 있습니다.
God gives to His servants this promise:  You’ll not have to face life alone;  For when you grow weak in your struggle,  His strength will prevail—not your own. —Hess		하나님은 그분의 자녀들에게 약속하시네  우리 홀로 삶을 대하지 않게 하시겠다고  우리가 고난 속에서 약해질 때에 우리의 힘이 아닌  하나님의 능력으로 승리케 하신다네
When in your deepest need, find God’s comfort in the Psalms.		가장 힘든 고통에 빠졌을 때,  시편을 통해 하나님의 위로를 찾으라.
