I love writing for Our Daily Bread. I confess, however, that sometimes I whine to my friends about how difficult it is to communicate everything I would like to say in a short devotional. If only I could use more than 220 words.		나는 ‘오늘의 양식’에 글을 쓰기를 좋아합니다. 하지만 솔직히 말하자면, 짧은 경건의 글로 말하고 싶은 모든 것을 전달하기가 얼마나 어려운지 곧잘 친구들에게 푸념하곤 합니다. 220자 이상을 쓸 수 있다면 얼마나 좋 을까요.
This year when I came to the book of Matthew in my Bible-reading schedule, I noticed something for the first time. As I was reading about the temptation of Christ (Matt. 4:1-11), I noticed how short it was. Matthew used fewer than 250 words to write his account of one of the most pivotal events in all of Scripture. Then I thought of other short yet powerful passages: the 23rd Psalm (117 words) and the Lord’s prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 (66 words).		올해의 성경읽기계획표에 따라 마태복음을읽게 되었을 때 내가 처음으로 깨달은 것이 있습니다. 그리스도 의 시험(마태복음 4:1-11)에 대해 읽을 때 그 부분이 얼마나 짧게 기록되어 있는지를 알게 되었습니다. 마태 는 성경 전체를 통해 가장 중추적인 사건 중의 하나를 이야기하면서 250자 이내로 다 기록하였습니다. 그리 고 시편 23편(117자)과 마태복음 6:9-13의 주기도문(66자) 같이 짧지만 강력한 구절에 대해서도 생각해보 았습니다.
Clearly, I don’t need more words, I just need to use them well. This also applies to other areas of life— time, money, space. Scripture affirms that God meets the needs of those who seek His kingdom and His righteousness (Matt. 6:33). The psalmist David encourages us, “Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing” (Ps. 34:10).		분명한 것은, 내게 더 많은 글자 수가 필요한 것보다는 그 글자들을 더 잘 사용할 수 있어야 한다는 것입니다. 이것은 시간, 돈, 장소와 같이 생활의 다른 영역에서도 마찬가지로 적용이 됩니다. 성경은 하나님이 그의 나 라와 의를 구하는 자들의 필요를 채워주신다(마태복음 6:33)고 확인해줍니다. 시편기자 다윗도 “여호와를 찾는 자는 모든 좋은 것에 부족함이 없으리로다”(시편34:10)라고 우리를 격려하고 있습니다.
